request for an investigator's
gost from former opponent
arry Kellett.
Larry Kellett, in a letter to
The Summerville News, stated
he had asked the new sheriff
for his old position but was
turned down. Both men con
firmed that the new sheriff had
told Larry Kellett that had the
voters wanted him in the
sheriff's office, they would
have elected him sheriff. Larry
Kellett said he had asked the
new sheriff for a position
Thursday but was rejected. He
started to work in law enforce
ment in Walker County this
past Tuesday.
“SLANDER”
Larry Kellett also accused
the Ralph Kellett campaisn of
conducting a “‘slander” drive
against him and his family.
Larry Kellett told The News
verbally that he had learned on
Friday that his opponent’s sur
porters had falsely allegedly
told numerous potential voters
the weekend prior to the elec
tion and on election day that he
had l;?t a quantity of con
fiscated drug monel'y and drugs
for his own use fol owinF drug
arrests and raids. The former
investigator said his wife was
also falsely alleied.ly accused of
being an alcoholic when, in
reality, she is a teetotaler.
Ralph Kellett himself had
repeated the drug and drug
money charge, Larry Kellett
said he was told by a voter.
Sheriff Kellett Wednesday
denied making those com
ments about Larg' Kellett or
his family and said he doubted
that any of his supporters had
made such charges to voters.
The new sheriff said the
former investigator might have
been a valuable addition to the
department but felt he owed it
to the voters who elected him
not to rehire Larry Kellett.
After some time has passed, it
might be possible to work
something out, he indicated.
