ships for future growth, in
terms of both new businesses
and the expansion of establish
ed industry.
David Pool, area manager
for Georgia Power Co., is work
ing with the Chattooga Coun
ty Chamber of Commerce and
11 other counties to present
“Georgia’'s Great Northwest
Mountains,” the theme of the
event.
“GRAND WAY”
Chattooga County will be
depicted in a “‘grand way,” he
told members of the
Summerville-Trion Optimist
Club Friday. Chattooga’s
theme, ‘‘Come join us, we have
room for you,” will be visually
communicated with a exhibit
featuring a panoramic view of
the county from the mountains
and a hot air ballooon. The
scenic exhibit, to be designed
by local artist John Turner, will
capture Chattooga’s beauty,
roads, and open spaces, he said.
The Reé)e Carpet Tour, a
first for Northwest Georgia,
will “offer a taste of what they
can expect from us, and
hopefully the industrialists will
decide to come back and spend
a week in Chattooga County,”
said Pool. *‘lt is an opportuni
ty for our existing companies
to get new markets for their
products, to buy our denim,
Best’s gloves, or Image's
| car;i‘et." ; i
| he industrialists, whom
- Poole said were influential peo
ple and decision-makers, will
arrive in Atlanta April 9 and be
hosted by Gov. Ze‘il Miller. A
train will take the groui) to
Ridfif Ferry Park on April 10.
On the train, citizens from each
county, including Chattooga,
- will have the opportunity to
~ talk with the business leaders
~and “‘sell” them on Northwest
Georgia.
EXHIBITS
Arriving in Rome, the
group will view exhibits from
each county for a couple of
hours. The Floyd County
Chamber of Commerce will pro
vide lunch for the guests.
Entertainment will also be of
fered by regional performing
artists. Chattooga will be
represented by the Chattooga
County Dixie Darlings, youth
cloggers.
The group will then travel
by barge to tour the Rome-
Floyd County library in Rome.
Poole said he hopes the bank of
the river will be fiied with Nor
thwest Georgians “‘offering a
warm reception’’ to the
industrialists.
The entourage will also tour
sites in Rome, described by
Poole as being representational
of Northwest Georgia, in
cluding Berry College, the new
Mount Berry Mall, and Rome’s
medical facilities.
. VIDEO
The next item on the agen
da will be a video presentation
at Rome's City Auditorium
and talks from other in
dustrialists who participated in
previous state-wide tours and
chose to settle in Floyd
County.
““This could open the world
up for our existing industry, as
well as the opportunity for new
plants,” said Pool. *‘The more
we talk about what we have
and where we want to go, the
better. Like many of you, I
don’t want to see commer
cialization of our county to the
point of losing its beauty; but
we need growth equivalent to
sustaining a good standard of
living for our young people.”
