Wayne Loyd, with two hits,
and Roone Gable, Kerry
Thomas, and Chris Clark, with
one hit each. Clark was the win
ning pitcher, giving up three
hits and three walks. He had
seven strikeouts.
The LaFayette game was

he's excited about the new
season. He lost five players
from last year, but has eight
starters returning.
**We have a lot of team uni
ty. They believe in each other,
and they're excited. We have
good times before and after
practice, but when we practice,
they get serious.”
The team's goals are to
have a winning record, main
tain a .300 team batting
average, and win the sub
region and region champion
ships. “‘They're all reachable,
but they'll have to work hard
to reach their goals,” Bennett
said. Trion finished 10-7 last
year, but did not make the
playoffs.
Bennett said that there
won't be many position
changes this season. *“We could
change people around some,
but I%eef)like we're too deep in
every position.”
Pitchers this year will be
Clark, Jon Mitchell, David
Wilson, Casey Hunter and
Stacy Tallent. Roone Gable
will start at first base, Joseph
Clark at second, and Hunter at
third. Tallent will play at short
stop, Clark in left geld. Thomas
in centerfield, and Chris
Mosley in right field.
Justin Brown will be a
“utility’’ infielder, Bennett
said, and Loyd will play at cat
cher; Jeremy Willingham, out
field; Damien McCroy, center
field and pitcher; Jason Phibbs,
first base; Richard Ramirez,
third base; and Joey Canada,
catcher.

Turkey
Safety
Tips
By LYDIA ROBERTSON
Summerville Police
Turkey season will open on
yarch 23 and hunters need to
eep several safety factors in
mind when they head for the
woods this year.
Stalking is the hardest way
of taking turkeys. It is also the
most dangerous. Most turkey
h%nting accidents happen
while using this particular
method. Stalking is not recom
mended as a viable method of
hunting turkeys.
Do not wear bright colors
when hunting turkeys,
gspeciall{ red, white and blue,
ecause these colors resemble
the male's markings. Opinions
vary as to whether or not wear
ing hunter orange clothing af
fects a hunter’'s success rate.
But this bright fabric does
make the hunter more visible
to other hunters in the field.
It is best to let other
hunters know that they are
coming close to your stand by
speaking or coughing, rather
t.Ean signalling with your hand
or any call.
Be alert to other hunters in
the area. If a courteous sport
sman hears calling or a shot, he
will look for a dif%e'ent area in
which to hunt.
When decoys are allowed,
choose a stand where you can
not be hurt by someone
shooting at what looks like a
real bird.
Camouflage clothing, face
nets, grease paint, and
camouflage for your firearm or
bow will heng hide Xou from
turkeys. But, it is less safe
than Kunter orange clothing.
You must follow local
regulations concerning field
dressing a turkey. It may be
mandatory, and certainly safer,
go carry a harvested turkey
ack to camp or car in an
orange game bag of breathable
cloth. éover it with hunter
orange cloth to ensure your
safety.
