Leonard Barrett, board
spokesman, the county’s chief
property appraiser.
Following is information concerning 1990 property tax
assessment notices for Chattooga County taxpayers, as
provided by the Chattooga Board of Property Assessors.
The information corresponds to the numbered areas on
the assessment notice.

1. Assessors’ office return address.
2. Name and address of property owner.
3. Tax digest year.
4. Description of property to be taxed.
5. Fair market value and 40-percent tax assessment for
the Gprevipus tax year.
. Fair market value returned by property owner
estimating the value of the property as of Jan. 1 of the tax
year and 40-percent tax assessment.
7. Fair market value estimated by the assessor’s office,
and 40-percent assessment on which the tax bill will be bas
ed if no appeal is filed.
8. The date on which the assessment notice was
prepared.
9. Designated forinformation as to reason for a change
in value and assessment.
10. Information concerning the property owner’s right
to appeal information listed on the notice.

Chattooga County voters who haven't cast ballots in the
three ai;ears prior to Jan. 1 have little more than two weeks
to make sure their names are kept on the county’s voter
registration list.
Elsie Echols, chief registrar, said Wednesday that the coun
ty's voting rolls are being purged of inactive voters. Notices
are being mailed to 642 voters who haven't voted in the three
years prior to Jan. 1, she said.
For those 642 voters to stay on the rolls, they must res
pond to the notices no later than April 1.

The Federal Emerfiency
Manafement Agency (FEMA)
has allocated up to $30,000 for
the Corps study of a pro Posed
}_iw-acre landfill site off the
olland-Chattoogaville Road.
The study was reguested in
September, 1990, and the com
missioner two weeks ago
received notification from
FEMA that it would pay for
the study and that the &)rps
would be authorized to begin
the study, which is supposeflo
be completed by July 1.
The county is supposed to
close its current landfill on
Penn Bridge Road by Sept. 1,
according to a consent order
signed by the county and the
Georgia Environmental Pro
tection Division.
Trooper
Captures
Escapee
An escai)ee from a middle
Georgia jail was captured in
Chattooga County Tuesday
night by a Georgia State Patrol
tro?{)er.
onnie Suits, 34, Perry,
was being held in the Chat
tooga County Jail Wednesday
morning for Bleckley County
authorities.
He was arrested between
Gore and Tidings on U.S.
Highway 27 by Trooper
Russell Hayes after Suits
allegedly tried to elude the
trooper but instead wrecked a
stolen 1988 model pickup
truck.
In addition to the escape
charge, Suits was also charged
with attempting to elude
Hayes, theft of a motor vehicle,
not having proof of insurance,
possessing a misdemeanor
amount of suspected mari
juana, and being an habitual
violator.
Cochran is the county seat
of Bleckley County, located
about 75 miles southeast of
Macon.
Davis Faces
Multiple
Charges
A Summerville man was
facing multiple charges this
week after he was arrested by
a Georgia State Patrol trooper
at 4 am. Saturday.
Travis Scott Davis, 27,
Cherry Street, Summerville,
was charged with driving
under the influence of intox
icants, being an habitual
violator, obstruction of of
ficers, drivin% without proof of
insurance, failure to use a turn
signal, driving on a suspended
or revoked license, ams)?.:sing
abusive or obscene language.
Davis allegedly got involv
ed in a scuffle with Trooper
Doug Jones during the arrest,
according to a report filed by
Sit. David Westbrooks of the
Chattooga Sheriff's Office.
During the booking process,
Davis complained of injuries to
his foot received in the inci
dent, the report added.
He was taken to the
emergency room at Chattooga
Counatfil Hospital and became
verbally abusive of the officers
and hospital staff, according to
the report. He allegedly tore up
a prescription after an ex
amination didn’t reveal any
broken bones or serious in
juries, reports indicated. He
first refused to get back in the
patrol car to be returned to the
jail, the report added.

sioner Jim Parker is seeking
bids on re?]acing an engine in
a piece o equigment in the
county’s public works
department.
He will open bids on a new
engine for a wheeled loader at
10 a.m. Friday, March 22, in
his office.
