SUSPECTED DRUGS, GUNS SEIZED FROM MENLO MAN EARLY FRIDAY
Inv. Hill, Sheriff Kellett, Invs. Whitley, Davenport, Dep. Westbrooks
Menlo Man Is Arrested
On Marijuana Charges
A Chattooga County man
has been charged with felonK
possession of marijuana wit
intent to distribute, and
possession and use of drug
related objects.
Jimmy Wayne EddKi 33,
Shinbone Valley Road, Menlo
Rte. 1, was arrested this past
Friday and was released Satur
day morning on $50,000 bond.
Eddy’s arrests was the
culmination of a letter to
Sheriff Ralph Kellett from “‘a
ver}l" concerned citizen.”
he letter reportedly said
that a late model shortbed
Chevrolet pickup truck had
been used to transport dru%f.
It listed a description of the
truck, complete with tag
number.
The correspondence also
reportedll}l' said the truck would
be traveling from Chelsea to
Menlo, then to the Summer
ville Branch of Farmers and
Merchants Bank. Officers said
they discovered that the truck
was registered to Jinmy Eddy.
Officers also said they follow
ed ulp on other information in
the letter.
According to a report filed
by Inv. Jerry Daven!)ort, Chat
tooga County Sheritf’s depart
ment, officers noticed the truck
driving between the Farmers
and Merchants Menlo Branch
Bank and the Texaco Station
in Menlo just after 6 a.m. Fri
day. The truck turned east
toward Summerville on
Highway 48. As Inv. Daven
port followed the truck to Sum
merville, it allegedly passed
another vehicle on a double
yellow line near the Berryton
Road. Davenport asked Sit.
David Westbrooks to stop the
truck on the traffic violation.
Westbrooks said he stop
ged the truck in front of Mar
utt’s Building Supply on
South Commerce Street. After
Jimmy Eddy, the driver, was
told of the accusations in the
letter, he signed an agreement
giving officers consent to
search the vehicle, Davenport
said.
During the search, officers
said they turned up several
plastic bags of suspected mari
juana and alleged drug
paraphernalia. No charges
were filed a%ainst a passenger
in the vehicle.
After the truck search,
sheriff’s deputies accompanied

Eddy to his home, where thefi
searched the residence, a we!
house and surrounding area.
Eddy consented to the search,
Davenport said. An extensive
search of the wooded area
behind the house failed to turn
up marijuana filants.
They said t eeiy found three
bt:fs of susHect marijuana in
E gl{;s well house.
o firearms were also seiz
ed in the search.
Others involved in the in
vestigation were Chief Inv.
B. R Hill, ‘Sgt. Tny. T. 0.
Whitley, Deß. Charles
Elsberry, Dep. David Patter
son, anrg two officers with the
Georgia Department of
Natural Resources.
OTHER DRUG CASES
Meanwhile, Sgt.
Westbrooks arrested Ted Cole
Simmons, 32, Summerville
Rte. 5, on misdemeanor drug
charges about 3:30 a.m. Thurs
day. The dei)ut said he stop
ped a vehicle c{riven by Sim
mons on Highway 48 just east
of Menlo because of the man
ner in which the vehicle was be
ing driven. After a consent
search of the car turned up
suspected drugs, Simmons was
arrested, Westbrooks
indicated.
In addition, Sgt. Gar
Campbell and Dep. ’lgony Cobz
on Oct. 10 discovered a mari
juana plant six and one half
feet growing along Highwag'
100 just south of Holland.
They also discovered several
five-gallon buckets from which
marijuana had already been
harvested. Value of the plant
was set at $2,500. A tip from
a citizen resulted in the find,
Campbell added.
