What Is The Church
Of God (7th) Day?
It is a body of Christian believers dedicated to the cause
of true Christian fellowship beyond denominational lines. We
are dedicated to honoring the Bible as final authority for our
beliefs and practices.
We honor the 7th day (Saturday) as the Sabbath. By do
ing this, we carry the mark of the Creator of heaven and earth.
To do otherwise we dishonor our heavenly Father, and pay
homage to the authority of man. We also give support to the
human problem as it had it's beginning when our first parents
replaced divine authority with human authority. Genesis,
chapter 3.
God has proven man at various times in relation to obe
dience with His holy Sabbath. See Exodus 16 and Jeremiah
17.
God foretold the action of man in changing the sabbath
and other of His divine laws in Daniel chapter 7. The result
is pictured in Revelation chapter 13. It states ‘. . . and all
the world wondered after the beast’ (V. 3).
No, we don't believe simply keeping the seventh day sab
bath is salvation, as salvation came through the sacrifice of
Jesus for the sins of the world.
Sabbath keeping along with all the other examples in the
life of Christ is the fruit of salvation. Obedience is the result
of true salvation. The thinking of the religious world today is
strange indeed. They teach it is wrong to break all the other
of the ten commandments except the 7th day sabbath. Of
course Jesus observed all ten of them.
Why Church of God as the church name? The writers of
the New Testament Scriptures speak of the church as the
**Church of God" more than 12 times.
The Bible tells us, “'For this cause | bow my knees unto
the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is nam
ed” (Eph. 3:14-14).
Because the Bible speaks of the church as the Church
of God, we believe it proper to honor divine revelation in this
matter.
The 7th day as part of the name is simply to identify us
m' pther religious bodies who call themselves ‘‘Church of

It is an institution in which every family should be a part

—— DRAW NEAR
Hebrews 4:15-16 says: We have a ‘‘High Priest’’
which is touched with the feelings of our infirmities. We
can ‘“‘draw near’’ with ‘‘boldness’’ to God’s throne
and receive mercy and help. A priest intercedes before
God on behalf of men. Jesus our High Priest
presented the final sacrifice for sin, has made complete
atonement for all sin, and by His death, He reconciled
us to God. He still lives to intercede, and because of
this we have the right of priestly approach.

Community Service

As we begin this new year of 1992, the first of the in
sights we should glean from God's word concerns the judg
ment that awaits the ending of this life. From this g
alone there are several insights which deal with the gfig
ment, but for today, let us simply note the major thrust
of this text.
“For we must ALL appear before the judgment seat of
Christ..."” Just as suref;' as 1992 has now come, there is
a coming day of Judgement. And not only is that day a
certainty, so also is the fact that each of us, as individuals,
must stand before Christ to be ju?ed on that day. The
writer of the book of Hebrews would make mention of the
certainty of that coming judgment thusly: “ . . it is a
pointed unto men once to die, but after this the judp:
ment:”(HEBREWS 9:27) A day of judgment is more assureg
ly coming.
It is the very fact of that judgment that makes the mat
ter of faith in Jesus Christ, and obedience to His gospel,
such an important issue. After all, if you were not going
to have to account for your life, your Kn’th, your worship,
and your influence, then t;here’dy be no reason to believe,
worshifi, or care at all. And it is the very fact of that judg
ment that makes it so important that man be reaé to
stand before God. If we but gain that one insight gom
God’s word, we will be much ietter off in 1992.
THE CHURCH OF CHRIST WHICH MEETS IN LYERLY
“For we must all appear
before the judgment seat of
Christ: that every one may
receive the th:':uifs done in
the body, according to that
he hath done, whether it be
good or bad.”
2 CORINTHIANS 5:10
