Water Projects Receive Approval From City Council
A variety of water projects
was a%)roved by the S‘:nmmer-
Vig;t ity Council Monday
night. -
It agreed to install about
4,200 more feet of six-inch
water line along Wildlife Lake
Road if four more cut-in fees
are obtained. It also agreed to
seek bids on the work to see if
Wrecker Ordinance Okayed
The Summerville City
Council has adopted an or
dinance to regulate wrecker
and towing service that con
duct business inside the city
limits.
The action came after
several months of wrangling
and almost an hour of defi)ate
and discussion on the issue
Monday night.
Councilmen Mike King, Ed
Bush and Ira Pollard voted for
the measure. Councilmen
Ralph Stanley and Earl “Red”
Parris cast their votes against
the proposal, which passed on
a 3-2 vote.
Larry Luallen, a local
wrecker operator, complained

doubted that a private firm can
do it as inexpensively as the
city.

The extension had been
sought by Mr. and Mrs. Steve

check one operator, it ought to
check all area operators, he

In another matter, the
council agreed to install 5,628
feet of six-inch water line in the
Frontier Estates area to the
home of Charles Norton. The

gets, Luallen said, is “‘a druni

driver, and sit by a radio scan

Councilman Ed Bush sug
fiested that the city install the
ydrant regardless of Parker’s
actions.
The vote was 4-1 in favor of
installing the line and asking
Parker to help. Bush cast the
dissenting vote.
Herb Skelton of the
memorial home panel said
work on the new structure is 90
percent comrlete. It was
tliggtiroyed by fire in January,
The council voted
unanimously to improve water
pressure on Hilltop Drive at a
cost of SI,BOB.
It also agreed unanimously
to spend $2,586 on boosting
water glrressure on River Street
and Third Avenue.

Meanwhile, Mayor Cash
said a proposal that the city in
stall a water line along Oak Hill
Road to the Alabama line has
“sort of cooled off”’ from the
Alabama side. A proposal and
counter-proposal have been
made, he said. Originally, the
city had hoped that the Nor
theast Alabama Water, Sewer
and Fire District Inc. would
pay for the entire installation
cost. Cash said the groject has
not been rejected but was on
hold for the time being.

the sewers and the matter was
postponed until next month.
C%ouncilman Parris also
wanted to build a separate
structure at Summerville's
natural &as office in Floyd
County store used water
meters due to the smell. The
issue was tabled until February
to give all councilmen time to
visit the office and sniff for
themselves.

they had not had time to
review minutes of the Jan. 2
meetini and refused to ap
prove them. They also ordered
that minutes of their Monday
meetings be ready for them to
inspect on the following
Fri Say.
