As recycling gains momen

what to do with the growing

Give them to a farmer or

Edwards, with USDA’s
Agricultural Research Service
in Auburn, Ala., is %'owing cot

bed of shredded Oielika-

“You have an ideal environ

“There’s no reason the mix

the country.”
LITTER
His mix has 40 percent
shredded newspaper, 50 per
cent soil and 10 to 15 percent
chicken litter. He said the
chicken litter decomgoses the
paper rapidly, probably due to
microbes and ammonia
available from the litter.
Edwards said the news

Veatch also asked why
board members are elected in
countg-wide elections, while
candidates for the proposed
five-member county commis

their respective districts.
The question was un

The board agreed to pay

While he used a four-foot
deep trench, ‘‘two feet might be
best for commercial use,” he

would ge suited to home

Edwards’ research at the

is starting to attract

He said the city of Prattville,

“It’s a mistake to call these

One change he will make is
