— REASONS —
l. Cheaper

IV. Creates Unity and Not Divisions Among Areas and
People
V. Places Responsibility and Duty on One Person
VI. Eliminates Passing the “Buck” and Blaming Others
Vil. Attracts Better Trained People

IX. Change
Present cost for one Commis
sioner approximately ($40,000 to
$45,000) in salary. For five member
Commissioners ($26,000) for
salaries and allowances plus ap
proximately ($40,000) for Manager’s
salary. This difference of approx
imately ($23,500) per year extra cost
to taxpayers is reason enough to
oppose five member Commis
sioners form of government.
REMEMBER there is no limitation
on the salary that may be paid to the
MANAGER.
Il
Easier to employ and supervise
required personnel to operate coun
ty functions, such as roads,
bridges, tax assessors and etc.
li.
One Commissioner can act
quicker to respond to emergencies
brought about by natural disasters
or to aid in attracting development
and take advantage of potential op
portunities.
IV.
One Commissioner represents
the entire County and acts for the
County as a whole and not for any
one particular area and this creates
unity and countywide pride and
desire for improvements in the en
tire county area.
V.
With one Commissioner the
responsibility is placed upon one
person, everyone knows who he is
and what he has done and not done.
There can be no shifting of respon
sibility.

tion or inaction.
, VII.
It is easier to find one person ex
perienced, trained or capable and
willing to be trained than to find
five. What type of person is going to
be willing to spend time, energy and
effort to be elected to a job paying
approximately ($5,800) per year
which will require far more than one
or two meetings a month? The job
will be a full-time responsibility,
concern, and accusations over mat
ters that she or he cannot control.
VIIL.
Chattooga County is unique in
that we have no real divisive pro
blems that are not being dealt with
fairly. We have no racial, ethnic or
class discrimination. Quf
geography and location keep us
isolated from some of the problems
that confront many areas. Our peo
ple live, work and go to school
together in harmony. Surely, we
would not look to some of our
neighboring counties with five
member Commissioners as role
models.
IX.
Change in some things is in
evitable. “Change” just for the sake
of “Change’” may be counter pro
ductive. “Change” for the better is
commendable and good. “Change”
for worse when not required is
stupid. Five member Commis
sioners seem to breed expensive
litigation. Be not deceived, the pro
posed five member Commissioners
form of government will have a
MANAGER. The act provides for
one and the five members would be
required to have one. A higher
percentage of -our citizens voting
would be a good “Change”.
