Mrs. Bettf' Jean Allen, 61,
Seminole, Fla., formerly of
Chattooga County, died Sun
day in Largo, Fla.
She was born in Pickens
County, daughter of the late
Irene Ridleg. She was
employed b¥‘ tate Title Co.,
Clearwater, Fla., for five years,
was a charter member of the
Tigar Bay Club and was
precinct committeewoman for
District 4. She served several
times as Bresident of the Pro
fessional Democratic Women'’s
Club, St. Petersburg, Fla., and
the Greater Pinellas
Democratic Club. She served
as Pinellas County Democratic
Executive Committee, was a
Florida delegate to the
Democratic National Conven
tion, and visited the White
House several times. She was

Larry Floyd
Larry W. Floyd, 56, Dublin,
died Thursday in Dublin.
Mr. Floyd was born in
Chattooga &)unty on Dec. 10,
1937, son of the late Arthur
Fl(:fld. He was a brick mason
an ca.lgenter and a veteran of
the U. S. Navy.
Surviving are his mother,
Nelda Floyd, Lyerly; three
daughters, Lisa Floyd,
Micfiigan, Kathy Tortorici,
Stone Mountain, and Angie
Floyd, Atlanta; one brother,
Charles Kimbell, Dublin; and
two grandchildren.
Graveside services were
held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the
Lyerly Cemetery with Minister
Ro%er Jones officiating.

had charge of arrangements.
Lillie Hendrix
Mrs. Lillie Brown Hendrix,
77, LaFayette, died Wednes
day morning at Hutcheson
Medical Center.
She was a member of Fair
view South Baptist Church,
and the widow of James W.
Hendrix.
Survivors include a
daughter, Mary Ellen Chap
man, Rock Spring; two sisters,
Mrs. Willie Mae Dixon,
LaFayette, and Mrs. Jennie
Lou Chamlee, Trion; four
brothers, Bobby Cabe, Hixson,
Tenn., Robert Brown and
Willard Brown, LaFayette, and
Eston Brown, Charleston,
S. C.; a granddaughter, Mrs.
Joyce Huskey, Philadeg)hia,
Penn.; three great-grandchil
dren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Friday in the Wallis
Memorial Chapel with the Rev.
Lowell Cantrell officiating. In
terment was in LaFayette
Memor{eGardens.
Pallbearers were Jeff Dix
on, Greg Dixon, Robbie Brown,
Mark Brown, Tim Chamlee and
Richard Chamlee.
Nettie Rinsey
Mrs. Nettie Louise Kinsey,
89, Summerville Rte. 4, died
'l‘uesdfiy night, Jan. 4, in Oak
View Nursing Home.
Mrs. Kinsey was born in
Chattooga County on July 10,
1904, daughter of the late
Robert Wiley and Addie Espy
Donald. She attended the Bas
tist church. Her husband,
Harland Kinsey, and three
sons, J a((i:k Kinsey, A. iln
Kinsey and Herman Kinsey,
died earlier.
Surviving are four
daughters, Violet Parson, Sum
merville, Thelma Owens,
Rome, Dorothy Broome,
Calhoun, and Sue Hughes,
LaFayette; two sons, R. W.
Kinsey, Oxford, Ohio, and
Eugene Kinsey, Hamilton,
Ohio; four sisters, Lucille Dol
query, Cedar Bluff, Ala., Min
nie Brown, Summerville, Lois
McKay, Ringgold, and Ruby
Hamilton, East Ridge, Tenn.;
37 firandchildren; great
grandchildren; great-great
grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, in
the Fisher’s Chapel Methodist
Church with the Revs. David
Pruitt and Ray Teems of
ficiating. Interment was in
Fisher’'s Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
grandsons. Honorary pall
bearers were grandchildren.

Arthur McElroy
Arthur Calvin McElroy, 50,
Cedar Bluff, Ala., died Sunday
in a Rome hospital.
He was a native of
Cherokee County, Ala., son of
the late Gra(g and Flora Coun
tryman McElroy. He was a
veteran of the Vyi'etnam War.
Graveside services were
held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the
Lawrence Cemetery with the
Revs. Floyd Battles and Allen
Deerman officiating.
Survivors include two
daufhters, Tina Rowland,
Gaylesville, Ala., and Allisha
McElroy, Summerville; one
brother, David L. McEiroy,
Orlando, Fla.; four sisters,
Pauline Brush, Jean McElroy,
Emma Deerman and Mamie
Ziegler, Birmingham, Ala.; and
several nieces and nephews.
Perry Funeral Home, Cen
tre, Ala., had charge of the
arrangements.
James Matney
James H. Matney, 64, Sum
merville Rte. 5, died Tuesday
morning in a Rome hospital.
Mr. Matney was born in
Morgan County, Ala., on April
2, 1929, son of the late J. H.
and Martha Siker Matney. He
was a farmer.
Surviving are two
daughters, Ruth Hamby, Sum
merville, and Norma Jean
Matney, Rome; four sons, Ben
ny James Matney and Allen
Ray Matney, Summerville and
James Elzie Matney and
James Wayne Matney, Rome;
one brother, Tommy Matney,
Delaware; 14 grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews. -
Funeral plans will be an
nounced later.

87, Gaylesville, Ala., Rte. 2,
died Tuesday in Cherokee Bap

He was a mnative of
Cherokee County, Ala., and a
member of Berea church of
Christ and retired farmer. He
was the son of the late Oscar
and Nara Ray Gardner.
Funeral servies will be held
at 11 a.m. (CST) Friday in the
Perry Funeral Home Chapel
with Mike Mitchell Offidafififii
Interment will be in Union
Cemetery.
He is survived by his
widow, Mrs. Lena Ray Gard

Gaylesville, Joyce Barnes,

Gaylesville, and Tommie Gard

Courses Set
A landscaping course for
adults will be held at Chat
too%a County High School.

be held on three Thursday
evenings, beginning at 7 p.m.
Feb. 17. The course will befleld
in the aficulture department
and will be under the direction
of Steven K;glor, agriculture
teacher at Chattooga High
School.

with felony possession of drugs
