The Summerville-Trion
Rotary Club through the
Rotary International lgounda
tion has three t of am
bassadorial scgolarships
available, according to Charles
Elhngton, director of the club’s
youth services committee.

interested in any of the scholar
ships may contact him or any
member of the local Rotary
Club, he said.
The three types of interna
tional scholarships include:
Academic Iv;:ar am
bassadorial scholarships are
available to study for a year in
a foreign country. Appi,icants
must have comHleted at least
two yearfs of co ?ge and must
pass a so anguage ex
amination. i%%e scgglarships
are valued at up to a maximum
of $21,500 per year.
CULTURAL
Cultural ambassadorial
scholarships are available for
either three or six months of in
tensive languz:fe trajninf.
Available studies include
French, German, Italian,
JaYl:nese, Mandarin Chinese,
Polish, Portuguese, Russian,
Sfianish and Swahili. Ap
plicants are suf:posed to have
completed at least a year of
college-level work in the
language he or she plans to
stugi'.

A flat grant of SIO,OOO per year
will be provided for costs .

The Summerville-Trion club
also offers a number of scholar
ships for seniors graduating
from Chattoog: foir School or
Trion High School. They are
provided annuall{ to help
students further their educa
tion in college or at a technical
school.
Both high schools have in
formation on how to apply for
the local scholarships, Ell
ington said.

Two students, one from
Chattooga High and one from
Trion High, will be selected to
articipate in the program

available for transportation.
Students will be proposed
by each high school and
selected by a committee of
local Rotarians. The selected
students must complete their
junior year in 1993-94. They
must have credible academic
stand:.:gs’ and an interest in
world affairs. Students who are
interested in seeking the
scholarships should contact
their school’s principal, Ell
ington said.

will meet at 10 a.m. today at
the Days Inn, Rome.
