Trion Girls Win First
6-A Tourney Game
The Trion Lady Bulldogs
defeated the Gordon Lee Lagy
Trojans, 50-45 Tuesday night to
advance to the second round of
the Region 6Aplayoffs. They will
meet Holy Innocents at 7 p.m.
today at Shorter College.
Trion trailed after the first
period, 13-11 but outscored Gor
don Lee 19-12 in the second
quarter to take a 30-25 halftime
lead.
The five-point margin
stayed throughout the game as
CHS Boys Finish
Regular Season
By LESLIE PLEDGER
Despite a total of 74 points
from freshman point guard
Jarod Parish, the Chattooga
High School varsity boys basket
bafi team lost two of three games
during the week finishing the
re%ular season with a 4 and 6
sub-region record, fourth place
sub-region finish, and six regu
lar season wins doubling last
year’s total. o
The boys ended their season
Monday by losing to Dade Co.
“We improved in every as
pect this year”, third year coach
Jeff Martin stated. “Our kids
played extremely hard every
night. We were com?‘etitive in
virtually every game this season
and with a break here or there
could have finished with a win
ning season.” o
OnJan. 31, the boys traveled
to Pepperell almost pulling off
the upset of the year. With senior
Daniel Hunter suffering from the
flu, Chattooga battled Pepperell
into overtime led by Pansgeand
fellow freshman Junior Smith.
Chattooga trailed virtually the
entire game to the Dragons who
would go on to finish second in
the sub-region with a 7-3 record.
However, a second half flurry by '
the youthful Indians who played
two juniors and three freshman
the entire second half, led to a
Parish 3-point shot at the buzzer
that sent the game into overtime.
However, a combination of
Pepperell’s size and an 18 to 2
margin in free throw attempts
led to 67-61 win for the Dragons
and a heart-breaking loss for the
Indians.

bounced back against arch-rival
LaFayette on senior night. Al
th%:;sh a Lackluster effort lpro
duced only a 25-23 halftime lead,
a blazing third quarter put the
game away for %ood for the Indi
ans. Chattooga hit a total of 53-
pointers in a 26 point third e(buar
ter explosion. Parish finished the
game with a season-high 29
Kdoints while team-captain
ichael Covington added 15
Koints of his own finishing the
ome season with an impressive
victory by a score of 73-59 over
the Ramblers.
CEDARTOWN
The LaFayette victory set up
a battle for third place with se
nior-laden Cedartown for third
place and a first round bye in the
sub-region tournament. Both
teams went into the game with
records of 4-5 with a lot at stake.
Cedartown, the preseason num
ber two ranked team in the sub
region, came out blazing playing
perhaps one of their best games
of the gear. A 22-11 first t}uarter
score became too much for the
Indians to overcome. Cedartown
continued to stretch out its lead
leadini47-32 at the half and 70-
53 at the end of the third quar
ter. Chattooga, once again led by
Parish, was able to cut the lead
to 9 at 72-63 in the fourth %uar
ter but Cedartown was able to
pull away late for a 91-71 victory.
Chattooga was led by Parish with
2zgoints and Covington with 14.
Cedartown answered with three
players over 20 points. -
“We just ran out of fi?s,"
Coach Martin stated. “Our kids
played really hard and put them
selves in fireat position through
hard work and dedication. It is
now time to put all of this behind
us and focus on the playoffs. We
can still accomplish oyr pre-sea
sox;l goals if we continue to play
well.
Chattooga finished the
regular season with a 4-6 sub
region record and 6-11 over
record.
