ADOPTION
OPPORTUNITY
Samantha, White, 12, bom
7/88, is a sweet child. She
enjoys singing, drawing and
playing most sports, espe
cially soccer. In the 6th
grade, Samantha attends
classes for those with emo
tional/behavioral disorders.
Samantha has difficulty han
dling stress and expressing
herself appropriately. In
stead she will have temper
tantrums, aggressive out
bursts or act in bizarre
ways. She lies often and will
do just about anything not
to get in trouble. Because of
these problems, Samantha
has great difficulty with her
peers. Children her age try
to steer clear of Samantha
and when she does make
friends she can’t maintain
those friendships. Samantha
tends to do better with chil
dren younger than herself
and adults. A very commit
ted family is needed for
Samantha. They will need to
be aware of her strong test
ing behaviors and her few
coping skills. Samantha
needs help in dealing with
the world around her and
how to respond. An adop
tive family for Samantha
must be accepting of small
gains initially and see them
as positive steps.
