SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1884. ,
Throw the hatchet away.
Let us keep our bands clean.
Beecher says he don’t want any cabi- i
net p< sitfon.
1 ut away your roosters and get your
turkeys ready for the 35th.
Take your time, boys; don’t all try
to get office at once.
Grand, majestic,honest old Torn Hen- ;
(locks —1888 greets you '.
Grover Cleveland is a triumph of
the young Democracy !
The gap between 1856 and 1884 is up,
" ith a barbed wire, so to apeak.
Therr are no car pet-baggers now. The |
whole continent is ours once more.
A Dalton transparency read—“ All
are free now; an.l the white folks loo!’’
Belva hoaste 1 that her canvass was ;
quite a profitable one pecuniarily.
The People can now turn their atten
tion to the building up of home inter
est.
The fortune and fates of the leading
candidates trembled in the balance for'a
good while.
In 1856 Gov. Clark was elected gover
nor of Nr wYork by a plurality of only
200 votes.
Henry Grady seized the legislature
by the nape of the neck and twisted it
into u musing bon-fire.
It is a good time for editors to throw
uncouth epithets in the waste basket.
1 here is no use of unpleasant dreams
" hen the night-mare is over.
It is not expected that President |
Cleveland will make a clean sweep of |
the present attachees and clerks at !
Washington, but he will certainly “turn J
the lascals out.’’ This will give seueral
of the boys a chance.
It is an expressed fear in some quar
ters that the south will embarrass Pres
ident Cleveland in its demand for pat
ronage. Bosh! The south is one of
the boys now, and don’t you forget it!
She will only expect her dues.
We recognize that there was honest 1
motive in the ranks of the republican
petty, else it would not have so long
held together. Our rejoicing is of a
kin 1 that calls for no bitter \ ituperation.
We would not even have the boys go
up Salt river. Stay at home and grow
Up with the country.
Four years from now s solid re-united
republican party will meet ns, in every
former republican state,with a desperate
determination never yet equaled. If
we then meet the avalanche successfully
as proper action will censure, the jig
will be up with the g. o. p. for good.
A Nontezvma rooster is reported to
have la>d an egg in honor of the Demo
cratic victory. This may be considered
in the light of a coneessian to Belva; in
fact, Democracy will do the handsome
thing all around.
But for the enfranchisement of the
negro, the election of Grover Cleveland
would not have been possible. The in
creased southern eleetroral vote did it.
So the darkies are democrats by proxy,
any way. When they all vote the dem
ocratic tickes qnate out, they will then
first realize how nice it is to be free.
GrifHn News: The effect of Cleve
land's election on Southern securities
was very great and at once felt in this
market. Factory stock, a few shares
of which were being sold at 90, at once
advanced to par and stays there. Grif
fin Manufacturing Company first mort
gage 8 per cent are now worth 110 and
none on the market. GrifHn city bonds
are firm and hard to get at 107. City
National Bank stock has advanced 25
per cent, and can only be obtained by
knocking a man down and robbing him.
The election of Cleveland has caused
cotton to bounce up half a cent.
The North Georgia conference meets
in Atlanta on the 26th inst.
The E. T. Va. & Ga. railroad has con
cluded to erect a Hine round house in
East Home, which w ill eclipse any in the
South.
From the Corporal.
From the Marine Barracks, Pensaco
la, Florida, Corporal Ben. Barger writes
of the benefits of Brown’s Iron Bitters
in that malarious region. He say* : “I
have used several bottles and must say 1
am greatly benefited by usin;» it. Sev
eral us my comrades use Brown’s Iron
Bitters, and vou may rest assured they
ah think it is the greatest toing oil
earth.” This kind of testimony comes
from all quarters concerning Brown’s
Iron Bitters—the best tonic.

THE JUBILEE.
The Cleveland and Hendricks celebra
tion, in Dalton, was simply a sponta
neous outburst of years of pent up en
thusiasm, without regard to plan or dis
cipline. Democracy was triumphant
and the people were happy ! The wo
men and children caught the infec
tion and joined with gladsome glee!
i Many of the colored people also gave
' abundant evidences of joy.
1 he town was a wild scene of confu
! sion, and every combustible article was
I offered as a sacrifice in a a blaze of
1 glory !
Old men and young mtn hugged,
i laughed and wept, and played antics
like the nimble jumping-jack; indeed
■ everything was simply supremely hap
py, and it showed itself in the glare of
every torch, and the good natured em
blems of the various transparencies, in
the brilliancy of the windows and Chi
nese lanterns.
Congratulatory addresses were deliv
ered by Cols. Moore Maddox ami Shu
mate, and by Revs. Lofton and Rich
ardson. The speeches were short,crisp.
; pointed, patriotic, good-natured head
lines of souls too full for utterance. The
starry folds of our national emblem
were wrapped, entwined,spread and un
folded in glowing eulogy, and the God
dess of Liberty embraced till she blush
ed. with the glow ot the red tints of the
new’ born day.
The old battle-grounds of Liberty lov
ing America were recited w ith sophomo
ric spread-eagleism, and Columbia’s an
niversaries pledged a new recognizance;
the waters of the Pacific and the Atlan
tic, the Gulf and the Pakes were pour
ed together, ami the legend of an insep
arable union, one and forever, burned
into the hearts of the multitude. The
tomahawk was lowered into the grave of
the bloody shirt, ami the horrid past
was foigotten in the new born hopes of
a better future.
Arsenic Pills by the Pint
J. A. Smith, a Gainesville, Ga.,mer
i chant, says: “For years I was a victim
| to I he combined effects of Erysiyelas and
' an aggravated type of Eczema, that bid
fled all medical skill. I consulted the
very best physicians in the United States
to no good purpose. I gave every pat
ent medicine that was recomended a
faithful trial and recieved no benefit. I
took large quantities of potash and a
pint cup full of arcenis pills. The pat
ent medicine, pills, amt potash mixtures
fed instead of curing the disease, They
destroyed my anpetite and wrecked my
system —I lost flesh and energy—l lost
three years from my business and spent
$2,000 in a,fruitless effort to regain my
I health. At last, when 1 began to consid
er my case hopeless, 1 commenced tak
ing S. S. 8., ami in a short time, I was
entirely cured. I waited a tear alter a
cure was effected, and continued to take
Swift’s Specific off ami on as a sort of
safeguard, before I was willing to make
public this marvelous cure. Being as
sured beyond the posibility of a doubt
that the cure was permanent, I wrote
this history of my euuw fur the benefit of
my fellow-men.
My skin is now’ as smooth as it was
when a boy. 1 weigh more than I ever
did in my life, and my general health
was never better. 1 passed though last
winter (whith was an unusually col I
one), without losing a single day from
my business. For the last months I
have had no return of the erysipelas in
any shape or from, or any touch of ecze
' ma.’’

Harvy Mitchell, and Uncle Harvey
Parker have both been in town this

! lam advised to hurry this communi
cation to a close, ami in doing so 1 am
reminded of the fact that no two tilings
ditter more than hurry and dispatch.
Hurry is the mark of a weak man and
dispatch of a strong one. A weak man
in office is like a squirrel in a cage, is la
boring eternally but to no purpose, and
in constant motion without getting on a
jota,like a tut nsti.e.he is in everybody's
way, but stops nobody, he talks a great
deal, but says very little; looks into ev
erything but sees into nothing; has 1(X)
irons the fire, but few of them are hot;
a id with the few that are, he only burns
ins fingers.

The meanest thing the Republican
party has been guilty of this time is the
fraud they have perpetrated on the ne

that if Cleveland is elected they would
