A full fledged general wants the
Rome post office.
The country wants less red paint and
more common sense now.
Gen. Pierce Young is an aspirant for
U. 8. marshal of Georgia, ami would \
make a good one.
Grubb, of the Darien Gaaette, is men
tioned as the future Collector of the Port
of Brunswick.
A Pennsylvania man has actually been
compelled to cat’s crow as tWresult of
an election bet.
A New York policeman has actually
»>een sentenced to loss of thirty days’
pay for unnecessarily clubbing a small
boy. __
The south ns a political division needs
nr defense. Right minded people shoul I
treat insolence with severe silence.
An effort is being made to alter that
provision of the constitution which pro
vides for the election of Judges and So
licitors by the legislature.
Bob Toombs has, doubtless, given over
the fancy of calling his slave roll around
BunkerHill,yet it’s not so much a stretch
of imagination. The eastern factory op
erative is there.
The new administration promises a
severe simplicity, speedy department
reforms, abolition of all useless et pen
see, and a ready kick for impecunious
adventurers.
If the civil service rules are not ap
plied to the railway mail service, there
will be confusion enough among the
mail bags to blast this country with
blasphemy.
The reception given by Senator Brown
last week to the members of the legis
lature was an easy affair, ns there was
only one vote ag ins' hi- re-election,
and that lor Boh Toombs.
It is now about time to allow the sul
phuric vapors te clear away, and con
template such reforms as will revive old
lime democratic traditions in the minds
of the people.
We have no laurels with which to
crown the fussy broilers of the late cam
paign in Georgia. The extreme quiet
w as probably the greatest omen of Cleve
land’s success.
The Georgia negro will probably no
more vote the republican ticket as a sol
idity; but as we take a retrospective
view of the Norwood-Colquitt campaign,
we feel exceedingly dubious as to the
prospective change.
Wn. Glenn, of this city, will be a can
didate for U. 8. District Attorneyship,
for Northern GeoJgia. There rt few
more brilliant young men than he, or
older ones, more conversant with law.
If appointed he will do honor to the pre
ferment. The Argus stands by him.
The Trouble Safely Over.
■Stomach trouble is serious business
while it last; but what a blessed relief
to h ive it depart! Mrs. F. G. Wells, of
19 Atlanta street, Hartford, Conn., writes
I hat she tried Brown’s Iron Bitters for
stomach trouble, and that she experien
ced such relief that the trouble is now en
tirely over. She reeomends this great
iron medicine to all who are aiilicted.
II cures liver and kidney complaint.
Seems to us there’s a lapse of judge
ment in the case of the old, seedy politi
cians. The democratic party must now
become an element of the living future
There be young men who are full of
ambition. If they are not fully recog
nized, they may.take a fighting chance
in the future.
In the hurly-burly of the times it is
well to remember that the winter sun
shines with a soft radiance in Georgiy
that will prove a pleasant relief to the
chilling blasts of the north west. In oth
er words there is no section like north
Georgia to seek a good thaw out, and
Dalton is the place where the latch string
is loose.
Nose Eaten Off.
A young man named John Naves, liv
ing near here had an eating cancer on
his face, which had eaten away his nose
part of his cheek, ami extended nearly
to his eve. It was one ot the most an
gry eating sores that I had ever seen.
His throat finally became involved to
such an extent that he could only swal
low liquid food. After using all the rem
edies without checking the ravages of
theeating cancer, his geneial health
was broken down, he was confined to
bis bed and thought it to be only a ques
tion of time about his death from the
cancer. 1 put him on Swift’s Specific as
a last resort, and he begun to improve
with the first dose. Hisgeneral health
improved at on<e,and rapidly ; his throat
got well; the ravages of the cancer were
soon stopped; it began to heal around
the edges; and after a few months treat
ment with S. S. S. he has gotten entire
ly well. His lace is all healed over
with new flesh, and his general health
is excellent. His recovery is wonderlul.J

One of the many landl< r I’s bills hatch- I
e<l in lower Georgia, is now before the
legislature. A prominent member of
that body has male up his mind to op
pose it. on the ground that the multitude
of negroes hi that section are, in the
future, to be the controlling element in
poitics. This is a double jointed prob
lem that excites our philosphy. Dem
ocratic triumph makes the t ezro’s pow
er a theme of especial wonder! Heark

points of the trembling compass! Your

How he got a Position.
“I applied fur a position in a danking
house in Wa'l street six months ago, and 1
< although I proved my competency, they
: would not take me. I had been down
on my luck and looked old and shabby.
An idea struck me. I got up a new
growth of hair w ith Parker’s Hair Bal
sam, raised a decent suit of clothes, ap
plied again, and they tank me in a min
ute.” Sa writes a clerk with s2,ooosal

Balsam gives a person a new face.

The demands that are to be made by
the South upon Presi dent Cleveland, in
the way of patronage, seems to be a pen
etrating thorn. We surmise that each
state will be able to furnish home made
material to fill the positions required
within their respective borders, and a
pro rata of capitol employment. If less
than this is to be expected a few mo re
years of anxietv will he nevcrssary to
Nationalize the great democratic party.

While the Union eagle again flops his

our Indian summer, the doleful raven
quakes his sombre notes of ill omen in
the frosty darkness of provincial yankee- i

warmest gush of enthusiasm shout har
monious blendings of praise and peace
—love for all mankind and the Union
forever; but quoth the evil bird from
the metaliferons shafts of Mt. Shasti to
the granite juts of Waliastook —“Never-

hoarse shouts of a newly inspired Hail

flutters is triune colors to the merry ac

still from the mildewed furls of that

The moral cf this little parable amounts
to just this. There is no sectional feeling
from a confederate stand point at the
south, but commerciallv, every man,

A fellow by the name of Smith wrote
a most outragions cock and bull story
from Atlanta to a brother in Pennsylva

of exhnbrence in the recent jollifications
and reiterated the confederate flag lie.
It was traced to him, and he admittde
that he lied, but excused himself by
claiming his information from Parker a
negro mail carrier, whereupon Parker
hunted him up and slapped his jaws for
lying on him. Smith, doubtless, is now
ready to admit the most cordial freedom
to one negro at least.

Frightful Catarrh.
Pieces of Bone.
For four years I have been afflicted with a
very troublesome catarrh of the head. So
terrible has its nature been that w-hen I blew
my nose small pieces of bone would frequent

offensive. My blood became so impure that
my general health was greatly impaired, with
poor appetite and worse digestion.
Numerous medicines were used without
relief, until I began the nse of B. B. 8., and
three bottles acted almost like magic. Since
their use not a symptom has returned, and j
