The Southern Normal Musical Insti
tute, under the miina_*ement of Prof.’s
Showalter and Sehoeller, has been in
progress at the Baptist church, in this
city, the past two weeks. To ieport
that the attendance is i ot of an . ncotir
aging volume, is not a credicible reflec
tion Upon this communitv. There can
be little doubt that the musical en ture
of Dalton has developed more rapidly
the last dozen years than any other (‘le
nient of our social condition. Without
disparagement to others, the credit is
very largely due to the eminent thor
oughness of Prof. Schneller. He has
had good material upon which to work,
but the progression is grandlv in his fa
vor. Our musical culture is not sur
passed, to-day, by any southrrn town
the size of Dalton, yet, in a measure, it
is in a primitive condition . He deserves,
not for What he has done, but for what
he is capable o doing In his particu
lar line, Prof. Showaiter. comes amongst
us with a success, in the past, that is
his guarantee. The institution is to be
a permanency in Dalton. T e present
session continues two weeks longer. In
the meantime two concerts are to occur
the training for either of which will be
worth the cost of the half term. A large
ly increased class should commence
next Mommy. The terms are reason i
ble. The instruction is thorough.

On last Thursday week, Mr. Vickery,
in the Fincher district, east of Dalton,
was hauling Corn from the farm of bis
father in-law, Josiah Perkins, and
brought his four year old son along with
him. The child was allowed to remain,
but afterwards concluded to follow his
lather, and without ceremony started.
By some means he lost his wav, and at
each abode he was thought to be safely
at the other. The next morning this al
lusion was removed, and greatly alarm
ed, a general search was commenced
and continued uninteruptedly by the
neighborhood until near noon of Satm
day when Ute little fellow was found in
the weeds in an old field, quite uncon
scious, lying upon his back, moaning
and only working his fingers convulsive
ly. Thus for forty eiuht hours the child
had been out without food or shelter,
and in a hiost chilling rain part of the
time. Added to this he had the whoop
ing cough. After several hours nursing
he returned to consciousness, and has
about recovered. He was quite wild at
first, but gradually recove.ed from it. I
The entire country was searched for sev
eral miles, the hunters i‘>rmoig in pla
toons and marching abreast back and
forth.

A Card from Mr. Berry.
It has come to my ears from various
sources that some of my opponents are
circnlaiing the report that I am seeking
the office ol Ordmary forHi.* eneflt of
one ot my sons. T his I totally deny.
Each of them have a full share of labor,
ami at more remunerative compensa
tion than this office promises. While I
am seeking the office, (not without due
regard to its labors and responsibilities,)
for the sake of the comfort ami pleasure
which the change ol a\‘-cation promises,
I lee! th.it it is not without having been
duly impressed wfth the idea that it was
the wish of a very large number of tiie
vo'ers of the county. If this feeling
shall be proven at the ballot box, it is
needless to express the gratification
which it shall afford. I shall undertake
it as I have other duties of citizenship
imposed in the past, hoping by will to
overcome such obstacles as are present
ed. My aim shall be to prove the faith
ful servant of the people to the minu
test degree, nothing extenuating, and
naught in malice. I have not, nor have
had, anything, even by covert insinua
tion. to say agaiust my opponents, eith
er as to fitness or otherwise, and it is
not n ill-out regret that I feel called upon
thus to d“nv . ill least, one of the mode
of attack p>esn. ed. Very Respt’y,

A Queen’s Opinion.
J. M. Queen writes from Johnston, W.
Va , that he has been sorely afflicted for
several years, but he was urged totrv Pk
rvna, which he did, and he now feels
that he is about over his trouble, and con
siders it the greatest medicine in the
world. He says he has to go or send z
distance ot fifteen miles to obtain Phru-
Na, but it will repay him for this.
Ellwood Shallcross, former editor c
the Saturday Journal, Wheeling, W. Va.,
says: "Gentlemen: Some time ago I
was afflicted w th a pain in rn v back in the
region of the k dneys, and si ffered con
siderably. Having read your advertise
ment, I went to Logan & Co . of this citv.
and purchased a bottle of Pervna, which
I took, and it resulted in the complete re
moval of the pain. I think I can safely
recommend it as a superior panacea for
pains.”
Mr Aaron Shrcffl r, Alma, Marten conn
tv, 111., writes: “ D :. S. B. H artman &
Cr» .Columbus.O D-nr Sirs: Myself and
wife have taken t hree bottles of your med
icines and received much benefit bv the
use of them. My wife was troubled with
neuralgia, headache and weak stomach.
Her headache has not troubled her for the
last two weeks, and her stomach is much
better. She took only Pi rcna. I used
both medicines, and my general health is
so much improved that I feel like a new
man. Mv stomach is very much better,
and the Manalin keeps my bowels all
right. We intend to keep taking themed
icincs until we are permanently cured.”
Evans T. Jones, Prospect, Marion Co.,
0., says: “ After having taken medicine
from different physicians of this place
without any relief, I was induced to try
your Perun a, which I purchased of Cook
Bros., druggists, of this place, and after
using some six bottles of the same, I feel
very much benefited. Am sure it will
finally work an entire cure.”
T. J. Ewing, Cattletsburg. Ky., writes:
In the early part of last winter I con
tracted a severe cold, attended with a bad
cough; then, being exposed during late
flood, added to my disability. I have
taken your Perun \ with good results.
My cough has entirely left, soreness is
gone, and am increasing in flesh.
Thomas Bradford, 314 Western Ave
nue, Allegheny City, Pa., writes: “I have
had liver complaint for three years, I
thought I would have to quit work; I have
taken two bottles of your Peruna, and
am well.”
