’Squire Turner, of < Fincher’s dis

Dalton. Dec. 5, 1.892.
Editcr Argus: The only signs
that give evidence futnie perma
nent growth, byway of answer to
your query, is that The Argus has
shown a disposition to takea catholic
view of quitters rehtitig to Da'ton ami
this secUptj. ‘
Now, Mr Suitor, ther.e is no use
whipping the devil iirtmtid the stump
and making excuse why Dalton don’t
grow. The reason is that Dalton is a
prohibition town, in 1883 the ware
house books (I have litem) show that
we received 16.000 bales of cotton
from the wagons. This was the year
that whisky was voted out. Last year
we received about 4X)00 Rale after
bale goes to Cleveland from the upper
ml of Whitfield and Murray, and Imle
itpon bale goes to Calhoun from the
lower ends of (be same. These are
facts; and a. fact is worth a thousand
arguments.
I think the best way out. of it is to
try the Athens, Ga., dispensary plan
as many comities are now adopting,
ami if it docs not work sttccessfully.
then myself and others I will be re
sponsible for, will Hereafter bold our
peace and vote against ti;e sale of
liqtlorats long as we live
The cotton receipts have been grad
itallv simmering down till we won’t
get 3.000 this year.

To the Voters of Whitfield County.
I see tny opponent, L. W. Barret t,
has seen proper t,o parade hinjself in
the newspapers aqd i>y circ'ila’r that he
has borrowed money to pay jurymen
when there was no money in the coup
tv treastny to pay them. I want to
say that I shall endeavor to so manage
the county finances, if elected, as to at
all times have money on baud to meet
current expenses, ami rife funds in mv
hands will fie at al! times where I can
control them. I am running in the
interest of no faction, but seek alone
the interest of mv coui;t.y. If forany
reason there should be no funds to pay
jurymen, I shall see that the money is
forthcoming. The jurymen, if 1 am
elected, shall be paid.
