The First Methodists.
The attendance at Sunday school was
ot so large as usual, probably owing to
ie fact that the lesson was one that does
°t generally enthuse the average
‘acher and scholar, viz, “Review.” One
four best teachers, no doubt, voiced
>e sentiment of those present, when he
dd that he did not know how to teach a
eview. After the regular opening ex
si s, Brother S. E. Berry, the superin
n|lent, announced that twenty minutes

effort on the part of the teachers.
The morning church service was more
than usually impressive, and the music
was up to its usual high standard. Rev.
B. F. Fraser preached from Judges viii,
4: “And Gideon came to Jordan and
passed over—he and the 300 men that were
with him—faint, but yet pursuing them.”
God is our sufficiency. When He is for
us, who can lie against us ? Gideon was
an honest doubter, but when he had un
mistakble evidence that God would give
him victory in battle, he became invinci
ble. No synopsis of the sermon can do
justice to the masterly presentation of
the great truths involved in the text.
Come out to the Sunday school and
church service tomorrow morning.
A Remarkable Cure.
“About eight months ago I had the
mumps, and just after recovering I
commenced to suffer with dyspepsia
or indigestion. For three ’months
there was continually a pain or lump
in my chest, and my bowels were so
constipated I could never have an ac
tion without having to take an aperi
ent. After using three bottles of your
dyspepsia remedy. I was entirely well,
and have remained so. I have not
taken a single drop of medicine since,
and have gained twelve pounds.”
Yours truly,
J. E. Mclves, Atlanta, Ga.
A. LIFE VOYAGE.
DEDICATED TO MRS. A. M. FIELDS AS SHE LAY ON
HER DEATH BED.
Long years ago a gallant barque,
Launched out upon the sea of Time ;
White benedictions followed it,
And joy bells sung a happy chime.
Soft zephyrs fluttered its pennants gay,
And wafted it gently on its way.
The sunlight flashed on the rippling waves,
Tinting its sails with a golden light;
No cloud in the sky, but everywhere
Above and around it, all was bright—
As it danced along through the balmy air,
Surely, there never was a scene so fair.
Little children pattered across the deck ;
Their happy voices ringing in glee;
As the vessel bounded so joyously,
Rising and falling with each light wave,
Making its way to the beautiful land,
Where the anchored lie buried in golden sand.
But alas! alas! for the gallant barque !
A storm arose, and the night was dark ;
The waves beat on it with all their force,
But could not swerve it from its course ;
It struggled on with bended mast,
And torn sail flapping in the blast.
Straight on toward its destined port
It steered through storm and shine ;
Wearily now it labored on,
Its pennant gay, all swept away,
Its tattered sails and masts half gone,
And yet it paused not—went right on.
Joy! joy! the harbor now is near,
The glistening pearly gates appear;
The Golden City is now in sight,
The weary voyage now is o’er ;
The ship lies'auchored at the shore,
And all is bright—so bright!

Pine Giiove, December 27. —One of
the most enjoyable affairs that has taken
place in this neighborhood in sometime,
was a Christmas dinner given by Mr.
and Mrs. Rube Keith to a few of their
friends; the dinner was substantial and
in abundance. Those present were: Mr.
and Mrs. E. S. Hill, Mr. and Mrs. E. S.
Cook, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Turner.—Cray
ton Bradley, of Mood county, Texas, is
visiting relatives and friends in these
parts this week.—Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Williams are visiting home folks in For
syth county ; they will return home in a
few days. —The Christmas tree was a
success.'—Found in Squire Turner’s barn
a few mornings ago, a large red cotton
handkerchief; the owner can get the
handkerchief by calling on him, as he is
very anxious to know who it belongs to.
—Miss Annie McCune is quite sick with
la grippe. We have a very sick sister at
this writing. Mrs. Joe Duncan is on the
sick list this week.—Since writing the
above the young people have had an en
joyable time at a candy pulling at Mr.
Keith’s, given by Miss Gursie Keith, in
honor of Miss Mattie Wilson, of Chatta
nooga; everybody seemed to be in high
spirits and of course we had a good time.
—The protracted meeting is still in
progress at Pine Grove. Elder J. T.
Nichols came down Wednesday and gave
a good sermon.
