Are you with us ?
The Argus wants many more sub
scribers in its big happy family
We are going t» pay liberally for
those who aid in placing Dalton s En
terprising Evening paper in every
home.
We are going to give something that
nearly everyone has longed for. This
automobile will appeal to every one.
The winner of this machine can keep
it or promptly turn it into pockets ,
full of cash. The Maxwell is a won- j
derful car, noted for the small ex
pense of running. It is built right.
And we are going to do something else
that will appeal especially to the wo
men folks, whether they are young or
old. What normal person-has not
hankered for a real diamond or a gold
watch. Then that fine piano is al
ways acceptable.
If The Argus put out a body of
solicitors to cover this territory the
cost would run into thousands of dol
lars. We are going to give the peo
ple a chance to earn that money. Be
sides, canvassers are something of a
nuisance. Our big prize campaign
will make a lot more noise, and there
is nothing like having some fun along
with business. The old apple paring
party got the apples pared, the ap
ple butter made and everybody had
a good time. This was better than to
hire a dozen parers to pare the ap
ples. We are out for more subscrib
ers and we are going to have no end
of fun before the campaign is over.
There are a few surprises in store for
those who actively enter the competi
tion.
Short Campaign.
The circulation campaign will only
last about seven weeks, the closing
night being September 2nd, a Satur
day night, at 9 o’clock sharp, when
the judges will count the votes and
award the prizes. This competition
will be more interesting and far-reach
ing than any’ ever undertaken by a
Georgia newspaper. The prizes are
not only rich in material value, but
are in keeping with the big under
taking. Division of the territory cov
ered by The Argus makes the prize
winning easv for those determined •
It Will Not be the Lack of Time, But Rather the Lack of Enerffl
To Improve Your spare Time that will Keen You from Succew
ones who enter. Energy and ambition
are the requisites for success.
Purely a Business Proposition.
The Argus at the outset pledges ab
solutely good faith and fairness to all
the people who will soon be engaged in
the campaign. This is not a “some
thing for nothing” scheme, in fact it
is no scheme at all. Neither is it a
charitable undertaking on the part of
The Argus. It is a business proposi
tion, pure and simple. The object is
to advertise this newspaper and in
crease its circulation and to win a wel
come in every household in the field
that it covers.
The Idea in a Nutshell.
i The prizes are to be given to the |
candidates securing the highest num
ber of votes in their respective dis
tricts, and there are three ways of
getting votes —first by clipping the
coupons which will be published daily
and will be worth ten votes, and will
be credited to the candidate whose
name is written thereon.
A quicker way of getting votes is
by securing paid-in-advance subscrip
tions to The Argus. The schedule
published elsewhere in this issue
’ shows just how many votes each sub
‘ scription entitles the candidate to.
" Receipt books will be given candidates
1 to use in securing subscriptions.
1 There is a third manner of securing
e votes, as follows: Every subscriber
- who is now taking The Argus is en-
- titled to votes when paying up his
* subscription..
What to Do First.
Send or bring in your name on the
regular nomination blank or by letter
saying that you wish to enter the con
petition and the Contest Manager will
give you full particulars. The “early
r bird,” in a short campaign of this
kind can get the promise of assistance
and subscriptions that later on would
be promised to someone else. If you
r are “wise” you will start tod .y.

Subscribers Should Vote.
Thousands of the free votes will

A Square Deal to All.
This is the motto of the campaign
and every candidate will receive the
same treatment. Any woman of good
repute living in the territory covered
by the campaign may participate in
the contest. Candidates living at a
distance from Dalton will receive the
same attention and their interests will
be as safely guarded as those of the
candidates living in this city. The
campaign is for the ladies living in
Dalton and surrounding territory, and
not for any one section. Those who
enter from outside districts can rest
assured that they w’ill be fairly treat
ed. Every person who actively en
ters this contest will stand a good
chance of winning a prize. Prominent
businness men whose standing in the
community is unquestionable will be
selected as judges to count the votes
and award the prizes at the close of
the campaign on September 2nd, at
9 o’clock p. m.
The Ballot Box.
There is a ballot box in the contest
manager’s office of The Argus, where

Manager and his assistants are always
on the job and will be pleased to have
candidates and their friends call at
any time.
