A True Verdict Rendered.
There is no doubt but many a true
verdict has bee* rendered daring the

but it is conceded by all that tho Ben

The Constitution of Tuesday says:
'-The Cole syndicate has purchased
from Judge Lochraue’s company the
entire propertjjof the Griffin, Monti-
cello and Madison railroad. It is
•aid that the price paid was $49,000,
a handsome profit on the original in
vestment. The road Is to be built at
once and will cross the Cole line to
Macon in an air-line from Grifliu.
There will probably be little difficul
ty iu obtaining through freight rates
ior that city, as the Georgia and Cen
tral roads are to he cunueoted by this
line. The work, we learn, will he
pushed forward without delay.”
If that is true—and wo see no rea
son to doubt it —the road, after
reaching Madison, ought certainly
to come on to Athens. This, taken
into consideration, with tL ■ extension
of the Northeastern, would give the
Cole system in Georgia, another
northern outlet. Athens should see
to it that Mr. Cole's attention is
drawn this way. It Is time for ac
tion,
Christina, the Rutter.
