Last evening the Wedding of Mbs
Mamie Mell of Athens and Mr. C D
Smith of Atlanta was celebrated in
elegant style, at the Baptist ehurch.
The ceremony was perl'jrtne-l by the
Rsv. Mr. Campbell Mrs. Ruff pre
sided at the organ and the mualoai
selections played by Iter were highly
complimented.
The wedding party entered the
church in the following order : Miss
Emily Hamilton and Mr. Lewis W.
Thomas; Miss Annie Powers, of Ma

Athens since her debut. Mr. Smith
is well and favorably known here and

gloves. The ladies wore short white
dresses and were jn k too, too lovely.
Thu wedding party repaired to the
bouse of Dr. Mell, and finished the
evening pleasantly under his hospita

Wednesday night Mrs. Harris,
widow of the late 'Hon. Sampson W
Harris, died at her residence in this
city. She has beetHtfa critical elate
of health for tome time, from par-
•lysis. ,
Mrs. Harris was a sister of Metre.
Stevens, John and Robert Thomas;
of this city, tnd was the mother Jof
Dr. II N Harris, agent of the Ocors
gia railroad in Athena, and of Hon.
Sampson W Harris, Judge of the
superior court ot Coweta circuit. Site
had resided in Athens most of her
lire, but lived several years in Ala
bama, where Iter husband repreaented
hie district several times in congress.
Mrs Harris was a lady of must ex
cellent character. The praise of her
many virtues and lovely traits, is in
the mouths of all who knew her. She
was well Itnowu in this communilv,
and no one in it had a more enviable
lepulalion for those characteristics
that make np the model woman.
She waa buried yesterday afternoon
Irom the Preibyteriau church—the
sermon being preached by Rev. Dr.
Lane, the paetor of the church.
