Some fox hunters in Norristown,Pa,. are under indictment for cruelty to ani mals. Hon. Walter B. Hill, of Macon, will be strongly pressed for the judgship of the Macon circuit. Hon. P. W. McKinlv, Virginia’s new Governor, took the oath of office on the 1st. A negro astronomer in Indianapolis asserts that in five years the sun will not have any spots and turn bine. The richest nation in the world is the Osage Indians, who owns $5,000 per head, men, women and children. At Merrill, Wis., a man named Han- lar was refused a drink of liquor when he killed the saloon keeper and mor tally wounded two policemen. Morris was installed pastor last night of the Second Presbyterian church of Macon. J. E. Pearce, a 10-year-old boy of Carrollton, shot and killed himself while bunting. Savannah’s new hotel, the De Soto, has just been completed at a cost of $500,000. Some one fired on Mr. John W. Jack- son, of Brunswick, the bullet piercing his right ear. There are two negroes living near. Macon who were large enough to n.ako sand-bags in the Revolutionary war. An Adairsville negro had a pistol to accidentally go off, and the ball was flattened on his skull. John and Morgan Tarnum, of Liimp- ck- kin county, sold 100 gallons of bloc! ade whisky in Atlanta before they were arrested. The white members of the Grand Army of the republic refused to join the Savannah negroes in celebrating emancipation day. Judge Gover fined the sheriff of Fan nin county $200 for not arresting John Stewart, against whom n warrant was issued. Notice at Dissolution. The firm of Griffeth A Mell is this day dissolved, A. At the celebration of emancipation day in Charleston, S.C., a negro preach er says the best tiling bis people could do was to emigrate. It is thought that the Barnwell lynching will lead to a general emigration of the negroes from South Carolina. A terrible tragedy took place in Mitchell county, N. C., twelve miles from Bakusvilfe, the county feat. In a drunken row Christinas day three men were killed. Friday Monroe Garland,a brother of one of the murdered meu, rode Tip to a crowd in the same place and fired into the crowd, killing three and wounding twelve. Tho Ethemcris of Athens reports that a number of coffins containing 30,000 gold and silver Spanish pieces of the year 1666 have been hauled out of the sen near the island of Andros. Six bronze cannons were found near the colters, and it is concluded that the whole came from tbe wreck of a Spanish man-of-war. A young lady school teacher of Sum. ter county, Fla., one night last week dreamed that she was whipping one of her scholars, and from reports she cer tainly had a terrible time of it. She waked up the inmates of the house by screaming: “Won’t you be a good boy—won’t you study your lessons— won’t j’ou quit sticking pins in the scholars?” Her mother, thinking that something rous 1 be the matter, rushed into the young ladj*’s room and saw her standing up in bed, beating, kick- ick and otherwise abusing a pillow.
