Tai Basxib editor certaluly ap-
predate* the word* of cheer and cn-
eouragsment that reaches him dally
from not only neighboring couoliea,
bat even distant State*, both North
and South.
When we first urged a boycott
•gaitwr
dercr and insnlter of the Sooth,
Postmaster - Genersl Wanamaker,
the idea of an obscure newspaper at
tempting to retaliate on such a
formidable man was looked upon as
the merest nonsense, sad tbe Au»
gusto Progress and a few other dem
ocratlc papers in Georgia attempted
to make our threat a subject of ridi
cule. But we knew the temper of
our people, and felt that when an
appeal waa made to their patriotism
and self-respect that they would
come to our assistance, and we were
not deceived, either. First tbe mer
chants of Athens stepped forward, to
a man, and every dry goods house
enlisted under oar btnner. Then,
dsy by dsy, other towns and cities
fell into line; and if there is a bouse
thst handles Wsnamskcr’s goods,
the proprietors dare not let the fact
be known. Bat the wave did not
stop with sweeping over Georgia.
Next Florida took up tbe gauntlet,
then Alabama and South Carolina,
until reports retch us that Hood,
Ronbrlght & Co. arc withdrawing
their drummers from every Southern
State, as they cannot make travelling
expenses^
But the good work docs not even
stop here, but democrats in the West
have taken up the gauntlet against
Wanamsker, and will stand by our
people in their righteous war.
Tliia boycott was not entered into
hoslily or in a spirit of bulldozing,
but calmly aod deliberately, and
with tbe same resentment that one
man refuses to bavo business rela
tions with another who had wilfully
wronged and insulted himself and
family. The Southern people have
too long boot-licked and cringed
to the North. Such a policy only
brings on us the contempt of our po
litical enemies. Let our people now
, throw so-called “policy" to;tho dogs,
and assert their manhood nnd inde
pendence. The Wanamsker boycott
shows what our brave and loyal
Southern people can and will accom
plish when they arc aroused, and ie
an index to their future course.
Hereafter the whites of tbe Soatb
will manage their own local affaire,
without considering or caring what
effect it will have on the republican
bosses up North.
lorg pa the New Englanders had a
monopoly of the business.
The money paid the North by
Southern planters for Africa^ slaves
was used as a foundation or, which to
build up the groalucss of that see*
lion. Tbe South was coutcat to till
her lands and buy goods of the
North, and the whole country was
highly prosperous. But soon our
Northern brethren began to look
with envy upon the luxuriant ease
in which the Southerner lived, and
felt that lie owed it to the labor of
the slaves they had sold him. It
was than that the North took up
arms and wrested from our people
the very chatties told them by Yan
kee tradesmen. Thpy diJ not con
sider that these negroes had been
bought with Southern gold from
their Northern masters; but with a
hatred as unjust as it was vindictive,
robbed the South of its most val
uable property, when the title deed
as. made by the ances
NORTHERN CAPITAL IN THE SOUTH
The Troy (N. Y.) Bulletin, in a
long editorial opposing tbe Wans-
maker boycott, argues that tbe South
owe* its Increased wealth to the in
troduction of Northern capital.
Let ue analyze that statement.
The first capital the philanthropic
New Englanders aent ns was their
slaves, whom they found nnremuner
stive laborers on their own barren
bill* aod in tfieir frigid climata, and
so sold them to thslr Southern breth
ren, receiving in return our hard-
earned gold, which they insetted in
manufactories. Not content with
selling tbe South tbe negroes
they held in bondage, our shrewd
Northern neighbors equipped slave-
trading vessels and goiog to tbe
coast of. Africa, for many years
{*•4*4 thousands of blacks upon the
Southern coast, receiving in return
for these chatties tbe cotton sod
cash of oar planters. At last, other
parties went into tbia slave-trading
business, and oar Yankee Mends
finding too much competition, raised
a great hue and cry, and had laws
;P*«sed putting a atop to the traffic
tors of the very men who tongin fur
their emancipation. This is the first
aid the North extended the South;
and it was the snino assistance that
the thief renders who eelis you a
horse one day, snd that night breaks
open your stable door and steals the
animal.
The next assistance extended the
Soalh was at the close of tbe war—
our people were overpowered and
helpless—when the heel of these
same Africans sold us by New Engs
Igid was planted on the necks of
their former masters. Not contcDt
with this, the North scut among us
flock of human vultures, who
preyed upon the little substance left
our people after four years of devas
tating war. Our State treasuries
wero robbed and the people taxed
into poverty that these thieves could
grow rich.
This is the kind of aid the North
has extended us; and now that by
herculean efforts our people have
thrown off the yoke of oppression
placed upon their nceks, and arc fast
recovering from the wreck of the
war, this Troy bulletin steps in snd
attributes it to Northern capital
This is what wo call the sublimity of
cheek. With equal Justice could
the Vandals assert that the great
ness and magnificence of Home was
due to their destruction of that city,
or the descendants of Titus claim
that the wealth of Iho Iiolhchilds is
attributable to tile siege and burning
of Jerusalem.
Lei tlte Northern tradesmen refund
to the Southern planters Ilia gold
they paid them tor their former
■lavas and African captives, with a
fair interest on the money, and you
will discover that the North owes its
wealth aod power to the very ptople
it ie now oppressing and slandering.
Even since the war, where the
North has sent one dollar in the
Soalh, our section has sent fifty to
the North in her cotton or caul
Strike a lialar.ee sheet, Mr. Bulletin
Editor, and you will see on which
side of Mason >k Dixon's line the
credit ie placed. "
We are getting tired of this whine
•bout Northern capital building up
the South. U places our people in
both a fslse aud humiliating light.
Without counliDg the Southern
tradp, our cotton crop alone will
overbalance every dollar invested by
a North.rn man in the South. With
draw this crop for one season, and
New England would be ou the verge
of starvation aud every bueincts
bouse North driven .Into bank
ruptcy. Now wc would ask, Is there
a single Northern product that cun
have such a disastrous effect on the
buiiness of the South?
Evety Southern 3tale is an Empire
within itself. You can blockade one
against tbs world, snd its people will
not only exist, but thrive and pros
per. It is the North that should
cringe to the South; and the day is
not far distant wheo you will sec
where the real power lies. It ie in
the South where the Northern capi
talist find* the beat inveatment for
bit money, aod he doe* uot place it
here through a desire to build up onr
country, but because it is to his pe
cuniary interest to do so. We give
these men value received for their
money, and don't propose to lick the
dust from their feet or eacrificc our
manhood and eeif-napec*

The eyelet of a corset seems
a trifle to make a business on ;
but what if one eyelet cuts
the laces, while another eye
let don’t ?
And what if the eyelet that
cuts is in universal use ?
And what if the eyelet that
cuts the laces also rusts the
corset ?
And what if the eyelet that
cuts is not so neat and proper
and womanlike as the other ?
And what if it costs as little
or less to put in and never
comes out or wears out ?
The new eyelet is made of
loops of corset lace instead of
metal.
The Ball and Kabo corsets
have it; the Ball is the easy
corset, die Kabo the one that
does not yield a barleycorn.
You can wear them two or
three weeks and return to
where you got them, if you
want to. The makers provide
you that privilege.
