The Grand \Jury recowmfcded the
■ale of the court bouse grounds and
building and the construction of a naw
court house In the central portion of
the city. And a committee was ap
pointed to look after the sale.
Bht that is nothing more than other
grand juries have done.
This thing baa often been recom
mended. bat the new court bouse has
not vet been built. *
The oommittee met and appointed a
sub-committee to see /if the city wanted
the present court house for a school
building. Will the city take it? Well,
the general opinion seems to be that
the trade will not be consummated,
Then, will the new court house be
built?
That is a question, indeed. The
Grand Jury imposed the restriction
upon the committee that the tax rate
should not be increased.
Can the county build a new court
bouse without increasing the tax rate ?
These are questions upon which they
are talking, and opinion stems to be

The Revival Meetings.
Last nights service at tbeFirst Meth
odist church was one long to be remem
bered by many who were present.
The subject of the preacher’s sermon
was, “If any man be in Christ he is
new creature.” He showed plainly
from the scriptures that a man couh'.
not be educated into Christ nor churcn
ed or baptized into Him by hi -
man power, but by the power
of God. This power, however, was free
to every sonl that was willing to for
sake sin and accept Christ. He said
whenever a man repented of his sins
saving mercy met him at once.
The power of God was evidently
the meeting last night. The morning
services are changed ten instead oil
nine o'clock as heretofore.
Business men were requested to close
their doors &nd attend the morning ser
vices. The preacher said God would
give the closed doors a tongue that
would preach more in the city of Ath
ens than all that could be said from the
pulpit.
Special services this afternoon at four
o’clock for children and young people,
and preaching again at eight o’clock.

And Prospects Are Bright for a Good
Crop Year.
The farmers are at work with a will.
And it all shows what faith they have
in the agricultural prospects of north
east Georgia.
They were thrown considerably be
hind by the bad weather in January,
February and the early part of March,
but they are retrieving their log8 with
an earnest determination to be suc
cessful.
From all around Athens comes good
news from the farmers. They are not
idling away any time, and are making
the passing moments yield rich bounty
to them.
The fruit crop is not lost by the cold
weather recently; and the farmers of
this section, while they are not fruit
growers by any means, still will have
enough of that article for home con
sumption.
The corn crop is springing up rapidly
and with good weather will make an
abundant yield.
The cotton crop cannot be predicted,
of course, but the farmers are seeing
that plenty of the seed are pat in the
ground.
The Alliance is getting in some iolid
licks by encouraging the brotherhood
to increase their prosperity at home, by
raising supplies and practizing ecoi -
omy.
Just now that is about all the av~
erage Alliance man is attending to, and
that is bis full share toward# the glory
of his State.
In due season when the crops are laid
by, they will see what can be done n
the way of legislative enactments.
Northeast Georgia is blossoming as
the rose, and prosperity will aurely
attend upon her farmers if they faint
not in their deserving efforts.
