Daxixutum, Oa., May 10.—{Spe
cial}.—On last Saturday the negroes
bad a picnic about two idles below here
on tbe farm of Mr. J. L. Simmons. In
tbs evening Mr. Simmons, with several
ladies and children in a wagon, went to
see them dance and to bear tbs banjo
picking. Mr. Simmons engaged one of
the banjo pickers to pick on bis banjo
for the benefit of tbe ladies and children
and bad him seated near bis wagon
away from tbe crowd of negroes. They
bearing tbe banjo away from them left
tbeir music and cams to where Mr. SimJ
mons was, and three very insolent ne
groes crowded between the banjo pick
ers an J Mr. Simmons’ wagon and
leaned up against tbe ladies and
children that were in the wagon where,
upon Mr. Simmons told them to move,
which then did not look like they were
going to do, and Mr. Simmons began to
use the butt end of his whipstaff knock
ing them all to tbe ground and quieted
t’icm for a while. After recovering one
John Moon, colored, who is a very bad
negro, rose and drew bis pistol and
wanted to ‘‘shoot the man that knocked
him down.” Hr. Simmons took in the
situation and hurried from the spot with
the ladies and children and came to
town, took out a warrant for tbe said
