W asmngton. May 13.—According to
information received by Dr. Guzman,
the Nicaraguan minister, a big battle
vould probably be fought between the
opposing forces in his perturbed coun

Dr. Guzinan said he had received a
dispatch from a friend showing that
affairs were directly opposite to the way
they were pictured in the messrge re- f
ceived by Secretary Gresham from Mr.
Newull, the consul at Manogua, and
so far from the government forces
being demoralized, this dispatch repre
sents that the army of the government
was in good order and would meet the
revolutionary forces in a battle for the
supremacy.
Mr. Cuzman also received a dispatch
from the president of the Central and
South American Cable company in New
York stating .that the revolutionists
wero not victorious.
THE WORLD’S FAIR.
A Congress In Session in Ohio—Scanlon’s
Favorite Song Heard.
Springfield, May 13.—The attend
ance at the Scotch-Irish Congress of
America has been considerably aug
mented by the arrival of delegates from
various points in the south.
The session opened with a vocal solo.
Scanlan's favorite “Moonlight of Kil-
luruey,” by Jaines^Valah. The invoca
tion was pronounced by Rev. S. P. Dun-
lev, of the First Congregational church

Addresses by Rev. G. W. Caldwell,
of Bristol, Tenn., General Beatty, of
Columbus, Rev. Dr. D. Kelly, of Ten
nessee and by Henry Walks. In tlie
afternoon a short business session was
held.
The convention closes Sunday with
an old time Scotch service.

Two Propositions for tlie Opening of the
Oates on Sunday.
Chicago, May 13.—Alexander H. Re-
vell, Lyman J. Gage, Edwin Walker,
Ferdinand W. Peck and Henry B. Stone,
©f the local World’s Fair directory, held
a protracted session to formulate a plan
for the Sunday opening, to be submit
ted to the full board of directors at the
tegular monthly meeting.
It was decided to recommend two
propositions. The first was that the
World’s Columbian exposition be open
ed to the public on every Sunday from
this date to Oct. 31st, and the second
that the World’s Columbian exposition
return to the treasurer of the United
6tates the $350,000 appropriated by con
gress to its use, the government to be
come responsible for the payment of
the juries of award as appointed by the
national commissions.

MORE BANK FAILURES.
A Big Firm Owning Several Banks Does to
the Wall In Indiana.
Portland, May 13.—The Dunkirk
National bank of Dunkirk, owned and
oontrolled by Dwiggins, Starbnck &Co.,
Chicago, has failed. The liabilities are
at least $75,000. The firm owns a Hum
ber of other banks, and these, it is re
ported, have gone to the wall.
The Cincinnati Branch Fails.
Cincinnati, May 12.—The National
Banking firm of Dwiggins, Starbuck &
Co., has failed.
Sudden Death of a Woman Who Read of
the Kxecutlon of Carlyle W. Harris.
New York, May 13.—Coroner Kene,
of Brooklyn, who investigated the sud
den death of Carbarine Duffy, who ex
pired at her home, 252 Navy street, be
lievea that her death was caused by
a shock received while reading of the
execution of Wife Poisoner Carlyle W
Harris.
Mrs. Duffy was the mother of the no
torious “Walsh boys,” one of wham
‘•Jimmy," was hanged for tho murder
of Barbara Greenthal 10 years ago.
Frank Walsh, alias Buck, was shot and
killed while trying to escape from Sing
Sing prison. The third son, John
Walsh, is now serving a term of four
years in the penitentiary for assault
