The Indication* Are Thnt the Country
Is Drifting In That Direction.
New York, June 2,—Advices from
Peru show that, bad as is the commer

political situation is still worse, and the
country is fast drifting into civil war.
A nightly experience in Lima is the

and overtures, reaffirming the deliver
ance of the assembly of 1802 on the in

The committee appointed to fix upon

that he be suspended.
The committee was given leave to re

as a court, adjourned, to be reconvened
at the call of the moderator.
The assembly then resumed consider
ation of legislative business. Chairman
Baker, of the judicial committee, re
ported upon the complaint against the
synod of Pennsylvania, which was not
sustained by the committee, and the re
port was adopted.
How It Wa* Dona.
The following are the proceedings of
Wednesday night which resulted in the
upholding of the prosecution:
Rev. W. C. Young, of Kentucky
moved that the roll be called and the
assembly vote upon the main question,
‘Shall the appeal be sustained?” which
was adopted.
Before beginning the roll call the
moderator announced that the form of
answer would be “sustained" or “not
sustained” and that commissioners
might vote “to sustain in part,” but
that such votes would be counted as
part of the total to sustain the appeal.
The roll was then called in the midst
of an almost painfnl stillness, the spec
tators in the galleries on their feet in
their anxiety to catch every response.
The vote was announced nt 10:15 o’clock
by the stated clerk as follows:
Whole number of votes cast, 499; to
sustain the appeal, 293; to sustain in
part, 85; total to sustain the appeal,383;
not to sustain, 116.
After the result had been announced,
Rev. J. T. Smith, of Baltimore, moved
the appointment of a committee of 15
commissioners, of which the Rev. T. A.
Hoyt, D. D., of Philadelphia, shall he
chairman, to bring in an explanatory
minute.
This was carried and, on motion of
President Warfield, of Lv Fayette col
lege, the moderator was authorized to
appoint the committee.
