MB. SKIFF’S ONCE A WEEK TALK.
By request, this week’s talk is dedi
cated to a husband whose wife is ad.
dioted to a habit of which we shall
herein speak. We rcc llect travelling
at one time in Southern Georgia with a
lady friend, and of meeting a profess
ional snuff dipper occupying a seat in
the coach near ns, and in dne time
after being well intoxio&ted in its use
herself she passed to my friend her
stick and snnff box with “come honey,
take a dip, it is powerful good.” She
was honest and earnest in offering this
token of respeet to my friend, bat the
oflerlng was not accepted all the same;
which seemed to be a disappointment
to the offerer.
The snnff dippers are like the tobacco
chewers and whiskey drinkers—very
liberal class of people in this one thing.
A gentleman taking a chew of tobacco
will ask his friends to take one also. A
gentleman taking a dram in a saloon*
if he meets an acquaintance, will ask
him to take one. A lady taking a dip
will ask her friend to enjoy it with her.
Misery loyes company in whatever
form yon find it, is a true saying. This
snuff dipping, or dipping snuff is the
most useless habit anyone could adopt.
Besides it spoils a woman’s complex
ion, discolors ber teeth and intoxicates
the whole system. It is a wrong and un
becoming habit; yet many are slaves
to it. We pity the man (if he Is not a
tobacco ebswer) that has a wife given
to this nnbeooming practice. We
equally pitty the woman that has one
of these slobbering tobaooe chewers for a
husband, and wonld not blame her if
she made Application for a divorce from
soqh a husband.
1 wouldn’t live in the same room with
such a man. Throw the tobacco and
annff to the tobacco worm where It be
longs. The next talk on tobacco, will
be the smoking habit.
These are bard times, and Skiff, the
Jeweler, will reduce prioes to comply
with the dnll times that bids fair to
last, we know not how long, but for
mercy’s sake let ui all try to be happy
and cheerful as possible, _ speaking a
good word one for the other.
