Mrs. H.
Chicago.
And Thomas Nelson Page is married
again. He wedded a pretty widow,.
Mrs. H. M. Field ont in Chicago, yee-
terday, and it was quite a romance in
itself. The wedding was quiet enough,
at the home of the bride’s brother, bat
the ooartshfp was the pretty part of it
a'l. It U pronounced lore at first sight,
and the mutual sympathy was instinct
ive and immediate. The pair met at
dinner in Chicago and fell together at
onoe. Psge followed the lovely widow,
hardly out of her weeds, down to Jekyl
Island last winter and shocked her so
muoh by his proposal that she fired him
clear off the island and ont of the hand
some club bouse down at that ideal spot.
She did not bury her sympathy, how
ever, and “Mars Chan’s,” author waa
aimply a little too soon. They next
met in New Tork in the spring, and
the weeds wen groe s^weloome awaited
the Virginia lfoturer. The wedding
followed, of oourse, and along with the
lovely widow Mr. Page will take care
of bar snug fortune. They will make
their home in Washington.

Fodder corn should be pat in at the
time as the field corn, for it is bet
ter that tbe stalka should be well grown
and reach a considerable degree of ma
turity before cutting, whether intended
for the silo or for curing as diy fodder.
Many believe that for the silo it should
be so grown that it will develop ears al
most as abundantly as the field corn,
and that those ears should reach that
Stage of growth where the kernels are in
or a little past the milky condition, and
if wo are not yet ready to accept that
opinion neither are we prepared to dis
pute it, says American Cultivator. The
points best settled are that it pays to
grow fodder corn; that it is good to feed
green when the pastures grow poor from
drought or other causes; tliatit is good
when kept in tbe silo, an<l good when
properly dried and kept for winter for
age, and that cutting it a few days ear
lier or later does not make a great differ
ence in its feeding valne. No one can
state the exact stage of growth when it
ahonld be cut, as they do for clover or
timothy, and therefore thi grower is not
so dependent upon the weather.

IMPROVED SWARMING LADDERS.
A common ladder may readily bo
changed to answer tlio purpose by hav
ing a middle piece fastened to the uppci
rungs, as shown in the cut. Fig. 3. Thi
middle piece projects above the two ttde*-
of the ladder as much as may bo desira
ble. It may be necessary to nse stra]
iron in fastening this middle piece to thi
upper and lower rounds to which it i>
attached.
It often happens that a swarm alight-
on a place where it is not easy to set a
ladder conveniently against the tree
whether the ladder terminates in one or
two points. Especially is this likely to
be the case with bushy fruit trees. The
swarm is away out at the end of an
overhanging limb, and it is hard to get
the ladder anywhere near iL In this
case a fruit ladder such as the one shown
at Fig. 8 servos the purpose well. The
principle is very old.' This ladder is
made of common inch boards about
inches wide, a rest piece coming between
the two side pieces at the top and a bolt
passing through the three boards, hold
ing them close together. This third
piece is of the same width as the two
sides for a tittle way at the npper end,
and for the rest of tbe wayabont an
inch narrower, so that tbe piece can be
folded op, allowing tbe ladder to be set
np against a tree the same as on ordinary
ladder.
