KNOCKED IN THE HEAD.
Athens will have a gala day
big time next week.
Several of our enterprising citisens
have gotten together and resolved to
get op some attractions that will draw
a crowd to Athens such as used to be
here on commencement occasions.
The day will be Wednesday, Jane
22ad, and it will be one long to be re
membered here.
Two games of baseball will be played
after the commencement exercises are
over by crack teams from this section
of the State, and they will be inch aa
will attract crowds from all around
bare.
Large prises will be offered by the
gentlemen having the matter in hand
and they will be hotly fought for.
In addition to the baseball featares
there will be several foot raoes and
many other sporting contests yet to be
determined upon by the managers.
The rates arranged for the occasion
are very favorable ones, the railroads
leading into Athens have agreed to give
a one fare rate, with the tiokets good
from the 90th to the 23rd inclvsive.
Mr. Joe W. White, of the Georgia
road, is working op a big orowd from
down in that direction, and the other
roads will also bring large crowds into
the city to take part in the sport.
. The games will occur at the baseball
park, and the crowd that comes will
sorely be entertained nioely.
Snob an affair is being gotten op
will be certain to please all who oomt?
to partake of its pleasures.
A White Man Injured by a Negro
Sunday.
Sunday afternoon Carr’s branch came
very near being the scene of a bloody
tragedy.
About two o’olock Lon Drake, and
another white man were out in that di
rection. They passed a orowd of four
negroes, who were very boisterous.
Drake says that as he passed a negro
namedMilesWinfrey.be was aooosted
in an insulting manner,
Drake started towards Winfrey, when
J tibianr& —ok, threw it with
„ _ Drake. The rock
struck Drake over the left eye, cutting
a frightful wound.
The negroes ran away In great haste
after the fight was over. The wounded
man was looked after by his friend,
and proper attention given him.
Yesterday evening he was resting all
right and will get well. The police
authorities arc after the negro who has
skipped.
It was reported that Drake was drink-
ing when the affair happened, but
Drake says he had taken only one drink
and that the negroes were very bois
terous.
THE SWEET GUM.
The exudation you see dinging to the
sweet gum tree in the summer contains
a stimulating expectorant that will
loosen phlegm in the throat. Taylor's

HEADACHE AND DYSPEPSIA.
William E.Rookwell, No. 512 West R
57th Street, New York, says:
“I have been a martyr to bilious
headache and dyspepsia. Any indis
cretion in diet, overfatigue or cold,
brings on a fit of indigestion, followed
by a headache lasting two or three days
at a time. 1 think I must have tried
over twenty different remedies, whioh
were recommended aa certain cures by
loving friends, but it was no use. At
last I thought I would take a simple
course of purgation with Brandreth’s
Pills. For the first week I took two
pills every night, then one pill for
thirty nights; in tirnt time I gained
three pounds in weight, and never have
had an ache or a pain since.”
Disease in one part of the body will
eventually fill the whole body with dis
ease. Every year or two some p irt of
the system grows weak and begins to
decay. Such part should be removed at
once, and new matter he allowed to take
its place. There’s no need of cutting it
out with a surgeon’s scalpel. Purge
away the old diseased and wornoufi
parts with Brandreth’s Pills.
