Bridgeport, Jnne 20.—Some time
ago the Rev. R. G. S. McNellle resigned
from the pastorate of the South Con
gregational chnrch in this piece, be*
causo several of the deacons objected to
his habit of preaching in a dress suit.
Since then the congregation has de
pended on preachers out of tewn.
Sunday morning, after the congrega
tion had waited ov&r half an hour for
the services to begin, Deacon Marsh
arose and announced that a telegram
had jnst been received from the clergy
man engaged to preach, saying that he
had missed his train and could not ar
rive in time to conduct the services.
After a hasty consultation a messenger
was despatched to the Rev. Mr. 1
Neille, asking him to preach.
Mr. McNeills, with evident relish, for
he is fond of a joko. sent word that his
dross suit was af the tailor's, getting
pressed, and that he could not possibly
preach withont it. Deacon Marsh
thereupon dismissed the congregation.
