Atlanta Constitution: Matters have

eannot afford to wait any longer for

conceal nothing.
It Ib said by a few that the agita
tion of the water works case just
now is injuring the oity’s chances in
the soit in the New York courts, and
that the articles attacking the man
agement of this case are bnt dabs
placed in the hands of Mr. Howdl
and bis friends with which they will
beat the life oat of the city's case.
They say that any division among
onr people will injure the New York
case, and that nothing should be
said about the case until utter the
trial, and that then everything will
be brought to light and the blame
be placed where It belongs.
The best way in which to set
tle this matter would be to come
right square out and tell the who'e
truth of the question. These gen
tlemen all agree that there should be
an explanation, but that this Is not
the time. It is our judgment, and
from it we shall not be swerved, tbs
the desire of the people to hear the
entire trnth of this matter shonld be
granted to the fnllest extent
The case in New York rests on its
merits and the exposition of the
truth of this matter at this time can
not hurt it. There is no division
among onr people as to the merits of
this case. They believe that the city
is right in the matter and that Mr.
Howdl and his company violated the
contract.
The people here, however, are in
dignant at the manner in which the
case has been conducted and they
want to know dl abont it. The of.
fleers of the city say they can show
everything has been conducted by
them free from blame. If that is so,
then let everything come onL Con
ceal nothing whatever in the matter.
A PUBLIC MEETING OF COUNCIL.
When Mayor Tnck returns from
New York he owes it to the people
of Athens to call a meeting of Conn
ell, the deliberations of whioh shall
be public and the intention of which
shall be to give the citizens all the
light possible upon the water work-
case. There is no use dallying with
the people longer, for they are arous
ed to a point where they are asserting
their rights and demanding the
truth, the whole truth, and nothing
but the truth, in regard to this water
works matter. The sooner the meet
ing is called the better for all parties
concerned, for if there is one thing
npon whioh -Unpeople have made
np their mind, it is thi», that they
intend getting at the very bottom of
this matter.
