THE MOHAMMEDANS WITH US-
Im'MMl Webb So,* They Will Soon
Muter »h« South In Force.
New Yohk. July 5.—Ex-Consul Al
exander Webb, who represents the Mo
hammedans in the United States, said
before starting for Chicago that he had
reported to the syndicate of rich Mo
hammedans in India, far whom he had
been securing estimates of lands in
Georgia, Ahilmmn and Florida for the
formation of Mohammedan colonies.
He expect a definite report from the
syndicate within a few weeks, and it is
probuble that the purchase of the land
will be consummated shortly after
ward.
Consul Webb has as his guest Ab-
durrahim Effendi of Egypt, who is hero
to assist him in his wosk. Both the
effendi and Consul Webb are enthusi
astic about the project, and both are of
the opinion that lands in the south are
bettor adapted for colonization purposes
than lands in any other' section of the
country. The effendi will journey to
the World’s Fair as soon as Mr. Webb
retnrps.
Immediately after the lands arc
bought they will be put in readiness
for the colonists. Everything is work
ing well in India for the emigration,
which will be large. Several hundred
thousand dollars will be represented in
the purchase of the land.

The Cave Mystery Explained.
Bristol, Tenn., July 5.—John G.
Gosliern was found dead some months
ago in a cave near This place. It was
supposed that he had committed sni
cine. A convict in the Virginia peni
tentiary now says, however, that Go-
shern was poisoned by him and his com
rndes, who were engaged in counter
feiting and illicit distilling. Goshern
surprised them in tlieir mountain re
treat, and in order to get away from
him without exciting suspicion, they
gave him a narcotic. They did not in
tend to kill him, but he died from the
effects of the drag. His body was then
placed in the cave.
Italian Laborer* Made Trouble.
Fonda, N. Y. f July 5:—A gang of
Italians, employed in the construction
of the Cayadutta Electric railroad, at
tempted to tear up the tracks between
here and Johnstown. They also heaped
ties and stone on the track to prevent
the passage of cars. Sheriff Liddle,
with a number of officers, went to the
scene and arrested 15 or 20-of the lead
ers and lodged them in the county jail
The others quieted down, and cars are
again running. It is said the trouble
was caused by tbe tardiness of the com
pany to pay the Italians their wages.

win while on a visit to his son B A.
Baldwin, waa sitting on the porch with
the lattar, who was telling him a snake
story as follows:
A noise was heard among the chiok-
ens out in the lot. Ben and his wife
went out and found two hens surround
ed by their little ohickenB, assaulting a
huge high-land moccasin in his coil,
snapping desperately at them. The
hens were game to the cere, and soon
pecked out both of his eyes, besides
tearing off no little of his skin, all tbe
while safety eluding his attempts to
bite. Thesnske was practically dead.
While the recital was going on, the
Captain beard a noise among the chick
ens near the house, and suspected there
was another snake fight going on. They
went out and fonud a ben furiously as
saulting another lsrge moccasin with
out any sign of backirg down either.
They killed the snake, however, and
relieved the plucky old hen. These
