The World's Fair Sunday Experi
ment Is a Failure.
DOES NOT PAY .EXPENSES.
The Hoard of Director. Will, Perhaps
Vote, at Their Neat Meetine to •
| Keep Jackson Park flata.
Closed on Sunday.
Chicago, Jnly 13.—There is now little
doubt expressed among the exposition
directors but that the Sunday closing
of the World's Fair will shortly become
an assured fact.
There was a discnssion on the ques
tion when the executive committee met,
but the question was too sweeping for
them to handle, and the matter was re-,
ferred to a general meeting of the di
rectors.
The comparative small attendance on
the last four Sundays has perplexed the
directors, and it is now highly proba-
blo that the World's Fair will not be
opened after next Sunday, as it is ex
pected the directors will vote for Sun
day closing.
Only Half a Show.
Since the attendance of paying visit
ors at the fair began to dwindle below
the 50,000 mark the directors have been
doing considerable thinking as to the
best course to pursue in the interests of
the exposition and the wane working
multitude for whom the officials have
borne the denunciation of Sabbatarians.
The principal reason for the decreased
attendance i n Sunday is the discovery
on the part of the World's Fair that
the working people and others who
have timo only on Sunday to see the
fair cannot see more than half the show
for the same price of admission charged
on week days, when every section of the
fair is open to the public.
Half Price for Half Show.
The people have decided to stBy away
altogether on Sunday and try to see the
fair on other days, or they are waiting
for the directors to reduce the admis
sion fee to 35 cents on Sunday. Many
of the broad minded directors have
coine to the conclusion that the people
will come with their families in larger
numbers than on week days if the uni
form price of admission Sunday is fixed
at 35 cents. The Chicago press, which
is favorable to Sunday opening with
one exception, ia advocating half price
for half a show.
