Atlanta. Ga., July 15.—The Consti

A duel between a well known young
Atlanta attorney and a prominent
member of the Chattanooga press was
averted yeaterday.
And when peace was declared the
two gentlemen were about ready to go
upon the field of battle and fight out the
differences which then existed, bat
which ere now obliterated.
The two gentlemen are Mr. Walter
Rhett, the promising young attorney
of Atlanta, and Mr. - J. B. Pound, edi
tor of the Chattanooga Evening News.
The trouble between the two gentle
men which came so near -ending in
blood had its inception in the Harry
HiU story.
Soon after Harry Hill skip
ped the town and while
the newspapers were yet busy
airing his shortcomings and delinquen
cies the Chattanooga Evening News, of
which Mr. Pound ia the principal own
er and editor-in-chief, contained am
article stating that Harry Hill had an
accomplice in his work, and that ac
complice wu Mrs. Rhett. A copy ot
the paper containing the story fell
under the eyes of Mr. Rhett, and when
he read it his indignation knew no
bounds.
Mr. Rhett went to Chattanooga and
after some correspondence, Mr. Pound
wrote a letter to Mr. Rhett, in wbioh
he expressed his regrets for the publi
cation and expressed a desire to make
anyrepration m his power. The.let-
ter was carried to Mr. Rhett, who read
it and expresred himself satisfied. He
then indicted a letter to Mr.' Pound in
which he so stated.
