SEVERAL CURES REPORTED
The improvements being made at
Georgia Factory are being pushed rapid
ly to completion.
Capt. John R. White determined
several months since to increase the ca
pacity of his mill in order to meet the
growing demand for its product.
The mill building had been construc
ted with plenty of room to double its
capacity, and the new machinery was
an easy matter to order.
He at once set to work to provide
power with whioh to run the new ma
chinery.
A dam was constructed across the
Oconee at a point about a mile and a
half below the present mill. This dam
has just been completed.
The next thing that will be done will
be the putting in of water wheels and
machinery with which to generate elec

One of the important matters to be
passed upon by the board at its meeting
this afternoon will he the settlement of
the school hour question.
Within the post few days a number of
the patrons of the public schools have
requested the board to extend the hours
of the daily session from two until three

highest grades and from two to half-past
two o’clock for the lower grades.
While several are in favor of the

T. L. Kennedy, colored, who ran a re

tried a second time at Danielsville this

Kennedy wrote some objectionable
articles in his paper during the campaign
last fall and they brought on a difficulty
between him and several white men,
during which he is charged with having
attempted to kill one of them.
Kennedy was brought to Athens for
safe keeping and luter on was carried to

Messrs. H. C. Tuck and S. J. Tribble,

the number of people who have used the
water there has largely increased.
Mr. Robert Smith, of Huntsville, Ala.,
came to Athens several weeks since to
visit his brorher, Mr. S. F. Smith, of the
firm of Smith & Henderson.
Mr. Smith was in very bad health,
suffering from nervous indigestion and a
geueral run-down condition of the sys

He began using the water from the
mineral spring and continued its nse
during his visit here. He left for his
home in Huntsville yesterday almost a

The suggestion has been made by
many that the city secure the grounds
upon which the spring is located

It conltl be turned into a handsome little

use the water, will appreciate it very
