AN OPERATION PERFORMED
Pape Johnson Relieved of a Case of Appendicitis
Thursday.
Tonight They Close Their Engagement In the
Classic City.
Another crowded house greeted the
Wood ward-Warren company at the
opera house last night, and a more
delighted audience never left an Athens
theatre. The style of entertainment
given was the Continuous Vaudeville
employed so extensively lately in many
of the large houses of the east and north
and althrough the fad has been the
rage in New York and elsewhere for
some time past it is distinctly a new
idea with road eompaines.
The performance given by the Wood-
want-Warren company last night was—
well it was up to the standard of the
Woodward-Warren company, and when
that is said, all is said.
The opening piece was a perfect little
gem, bright, life-like and true, and in
the hands of the talented ladies and
gentlemen, who played it, a perfor
mance was given in which it would be
difficult to find a flaw. An olio followed
presenting many catchy specialties, and
the performance was concluded with a
very realistic negro cake walk, which
was very amusing.
A matinee will, be given today and
the engagement of the company ends
with tonight's performance.
The play announced for tonights is
"Our Strategist." This play is beyond
doubt the funniest of the company’s
repertoire. It was played by Mr. Wood
ward and his company during lust
season, in all the cities of the .South, and
was made a feature of the tour.
In speaking of this performance uu
exchange says the house was kept in a
continual roor from start to finish, a
better farce comedy we have never seen
nor have we seen any played better.
Tonight a present of #15.00 in cash
will he given to some one in the house,
so bring vour numbers and come early.
