COTTON LETTER.
New York, Oct. 8.—Uncertainty as to
the character of the bureau report held
the trade in a state of suspense thi:
morning. First prices were at an ad
vance of 2 t<> 4 points. This was based
on the very good showing at Liverpool
.‘Zi! j where the increased spot demand of yes
terday and the day before was farther
in evidence in spot sales of 15,000 bales
at higher prices. The temperature at
St. Louis made shorts nervous, although
the range was far from freezing point in
the cotton belt proper. Receipts are
keeping at a point too low to warrant
high crop estimates, the ports tcdiv
being about 80,000 against 40,000 last
y*ar. Numerous selling orders ap
peared towards noon and prices went 5
to 6 points from yesterday. The bureau
figures of 01.4 against 67 last year caused
general surprise and the market again
started upward. Crop estimates were
reduced everywhere and the expectation
was that Liverpool would advance
sharply tomorrow and spinners be com
pletely demoralized. The receipts since
Sept. 1st are 525,000 against 724,000 la t
year. Exports are 882,000 against 280.-
000 last year. Spot cotton at New York
is quoted at about R 1 .* against 10, same
The faculty of the University of Geor
gia has issued notice to the effect that
no student will be allowed to don a foot
ball or baseball suit hereafter at the
University without the written consent
of his parents or guardian, such consent
to be filled out upon a blank furnished
by the athletic instructor at that insti
tution.
This action on the part of the faculty
meets with disapproval among the sin
dents, though many recognize the jus
tice of it It is safe to say that many of
the players will be thus debarred, for
there are quite a number who, though
they do not play in direct violation of
the wishes of their parents, would not
be permitted to play should the parents’
consent be r< quirtd, for when a part nt
consents to his son’s playing foot! all he
feels that he will have himself alone to
blame should the boy Ret ii jored.
The game as played today is not so
dangerous a sport. Statistics show this.
The main argument against University
football is its interference with sindh s.
and so long a - the faculty require of a
player a certain average in the class
room this difficulty is readily obviated.

FRANK S. GANNON,
Prof. R. B Ltwreutv, of this city,
who is himself a deaf mute, is satisfied
that Georgia uefrls another school for
deaf motes, and wants the legislature to
establish such an institution somewhere
in Northeast Gecrgia, preferably in
Athens.
He has written several commnnica-
tions to a number of Georgia newspa
pers and they have been published in
several instances. He will prepare pe
titions to the legislature on this subject
and have them circulated for signatures
in every county in the state.
Professor Lawrence gives many good
reasons for the establishment of this
new school.

All Doctors have tried to cure Catarrh
by the use of powders, acid gases, inhal
ers and drug9 in pa 1 tu form. Their pow
ders dry up the macuous membranes
causing them to crack open and bleed.
The powerfal acids used in the inhalers
have entirely eaten away the same
membranes that their inak rs have aim
ed to cure, while pastes and ointments
cannot reach the disease. An old and
experienced practitioner who has for
many years made a close study and spec
ialty of the treatment of Catarrh, has
at last perfected a Treatment which
when faithfully used, not ouly relieves
at once,but permanently cures Catarrh,
by removing the cause, stopping the dis
charges, aud caring all infiamation. It
is the only remedy known to scieaice
that actually reaches the afllicted parts.
This wonderful remedy is known as
“Snuffie8 the Guaranteed Catarrh Cure,”
aud is sold at the extremely low price of
one dollar, each package c. utaining in
