gathered as to the status of the case is
that the conditions are by no means as
reassuring as were expected yesterday.

has a very large plant at Bristol, to en

It is stated the production of all the
mills combined is exceeding the de
mand, hence many of the mills have too
much pulp on hand. It is help ve«i the
Bristol company will decline to enter
the combine, as it is working night un.l
day and said to have onieis for many
months ahead.

Central Contemplates New Road.
Ashland, Ala., Oct. 11.—The survey
tho Central of Georgia has been making

water. to Ashland or Lineville, iu this

Victory Over Vaughan.
Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 11.—The ap
pointment by President Roosevelt yes
terday of Charles Booth as postmaster
at Prattville, and A. N. Holland as post
master at Soottsboro, has erected much
interest in Republican circles. That

bama known as the Bingham wing re
gards the appointments as a victory over
Chairman Vaughan of the executive
committee.

Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 11.--The
erection of a big steel plant by the Re
public Iron aud Steel company iu this
district now appears to be a certainty.
As has been stated heretofore, high offi
cials of the company are now in this
district investigating the matter. Presi
dent A. W. Thompson has stated that
these officials will recommend to the
directors that the steel null be built.
