It being given out that Speaker Little
will not be a candidate for the speaker-
ship in the next legislature, a number of
gentlemen have been mentioned as his
successor, among them being Hon. Wy
lie B. Burnett, representative from this
county.
Capt. Burnett, by reason of his thor
ough acquaintance with public affairs
and his long service to his party would
make an admirable presiding officer and
should he enter the race he would have
many warm friends to support him
Capt. Burnett’s health is steadily im
proving and he will be on hand in At
lanta when the legislature meets.

TO IMP, OGDEN,
AN INTERNAL REMEDY.
A Pleasant Tasting Tablet; Simple, Convenient;
Cures Every Form of Catarrh.
The me of inhalers, douches, sprays,
salves and powders for catarrh is a nuis
ance and inconvenience at the best, and
cannot compare with antiseptic reme
dies in tablet form for internal use.
Internal remedies are the only ones
w hich cau really reach the seat of the
disease which is in the blood and local
applications can no more cure, catarrh
than rheumatism or kidney trouble, the
excessive secretion iu nose and throat
being local manifestations of a deep
seated poison in the blood.
Stuart’s Catarrh Tablets, the most
successful of the various internal reme
dies, is composed principally of highly
concentrated antiseptics, which destroy
the catarrh germs in the blood and
cause them to be elimin.itd through
the natural chanuels.
Progressive physicians use and advise
Stuart’s Catarrh Tablets because they
contain no cocaine, no opiate, no ener
vatiug drug whatever, but are composed
of Guaiacol, Hydraetin, Red Gum and
similar catarrh antiseptics, end are so
safe and pleasant that even little chil
dren may use them with excellent re
sults.
Catarrh sufferers who have wasted
time and money on local applications
should not dispair of a radical cure uutil
a trial of Stuart's Cutarrh Tablets has
been made.
A complete treatment may be pur
chased at any drug store for fifty cents.

While iu New Y’ork a week ago,
President E. C Branson, of the State
Normal School, delivered to Mr Robert
O. Ogden the invitation of the mayor
and council of Athens to hold the ses

next year.
Mr. Ogden expressed his appreciation
of the invitation and said that it would
be given due consideration by the gen

It is kuown that Mr. George Foster
Peabody, one member of the Ogden
party, is in favor of meeting in Athens

Yesterday morning in superior court
Maliuda Hill, colored, was tried for con
coaling the birth of her child. The
original charge was murder, but the
graudjory returned an indictment for
the lesser offense. The jury found the
woman guilty, and she will be sentenced
l iter by Judge Russell.
The greater part of the afternoon bps
sion was taken up with the trial of C
F. Harbin, a white man, charged with
ireeny after trust by the Siuger Sew
lg Machine Company.
The grand jury has been quite active
i its work and will probably addfcu
uu* oo surprising
lould the superior court adjourn to
m rrow or Saturday as both dockets are
extremely light.
Judge Rassell during the last few
years has kept the business of the court
going 60 regularly and so systematically
that it does not require many days now
at each session to transact the business.

ABOUT COTTON.

Lots of Cotton.
For the past few days cotton has been
coming into Athens with a great rash.
The crop is being moved very rapidly
now and the warehousemen in Athens
have their hands full. They are equal
to the emergency, however, and are
handling the reoeipts well. Lack of
proper railroad facilities, which is evi
dently the fault of the railroads, is caus

A Curious Sea Fowl.
Yesterday morning the negro cook at
the home of Capt. K D Cox discovered
a curious fowl in the back yard and on
investigation it was fonnd to be some
kind of a sea bird, that in going sonth
for the winter had evidently tired for
the time being and come down to take a
rest. The cook tried to catch the bird,
bnt it flew at her so viciously as to foil
her attempt and scare her almost to
death. Then it conclnded that it was
about time for it to go, and slowly rose
in the air and disappeared to the south
ward.

The Flight of the Stork.
The Rork is a remarkably pictur
esque bird. Its snowy t>ody contrasting
with the bright red beak and legs and
black quill feathers of the wings make
it n striking object. The flight is mag
nificent, bolder and more buoyant than
that of a heron. Like most large birds,
its powers of flight show best when
It Is at a great height. When we were
on the Baste! rock, in Saxon Switzer
land, a pair passed overhead, flying
“---.i n'linmrh high above us,
we could clearly see the black pinion
feathers, niul as we watched the
powerful beat of the wide spreading
wings we thought of the angels In
Zechnriah’s vision who had “wings
like the stork.”—Chambers’ Journal.

This rnmor was circulated in New

President Branson, when asked about

Whether or not the figures given in
