A description of Sheridan’s brilliant
omedy, "The School for Scandal,"
which will be presented by Mr. Mac
-an and Miss O lette Tyler at the opera
house next Thursday evening wonld give
hnt a faint idea of its chief attraction.
The lines are replete with wit and
repartee which mast he heard from the
mouths of the characters themselves to
be folly enjo-ed. In this respect the
play may be compared to sparkling
champagne which must be drank in
congenial society to be (ally appreciated.
A mere description of champagne wonld
be fl»t, stale and unprofitable in compar
ison with the wine itself. So it is with
the sparkle and spontaneity of Sheri-
dau’s witty speeches.

“Dear Mrs. I’inkham : — When life looked brightest to me I
sustained a hard fall and internal complications were the result.
I was considerably inflamed, did not feel that I could walk, and lost
my good spirits. I spent money doctoring without any help, when a
relative visited our home. She was so enthusiastic over Lydia E.
Pinkliam’s Vegetable Compound, having used it herself, that
nothing would satisfy her until I sent for a bottle. I have thanked
her a hundred times for it since, for it brought blessed health to me
and cured me within seven weeks.

It is probable that a larger crowd or
more enthusiastic audience never filled
the Grand opera house than that which
last night crowded it from orchestra to
foyer, from pit to dome, to witness the
production of the sensational drama,
‘The James Boys in Missouri." George
Kane essayed the role of Jesse James
and W. H. Harriman essayed the part of
Frank James, and weie ably supported
by the other members of the company.
The James boy* are endowed with masj
notable qualities, although possessed
with a property annexation that falters
at no obstacle. The play is a patch work
of thrill* and symposium of ontlawery
which kept the andience in a roar of de
light. The oldest habitne of the Grand
opera honse cannot remember when
there was snoh a orowd as that of last
night gathered under the old roof.
Probably over two thousand persons
witnessed the performance, inolnding
many who stood np, also abont 400
seated along the aisle in extra ohairs.
hundreds were tamed away owing to
the foot that they were even nnable to
gain admission. There is a delightful
vein of oomedy relieving the more san
guinary atmosphere of the play, which
makes an admirable vichle to exploit the
talents of this trnly excellent company.
