POLITICS BREWING
11 THIS SECTION,
Hon. James M. Smith May Run for
Governor,
THE JUDGESHIP RACE
ruy be Between Judge Kutsell and Solicitor
General Brand—Clarke May Furnish Two Can'
dldates lor Solicitor General—Jackson County
Politics.
Harmony Grove, Ga., Oct. 26.—The
news has just been received here of the
re-appointment of Judge William W.
Stark, of Harmony Giove, as judge of
the city court of Jefferson for the next
four years. Judge Stark’s re-appoint-
ment by Gov. Candler is a well merited
compliment to his ability to fill this po
sition to the entire satisfaction of all
parties coucered, and while he had seV'
oral opponents in the field this time, his
re-appointment was tegarded as a cer
tainty by those in a position to know,
Defendants in criminal cases in JackBon
county will now have to run up against
the -'three S's,” (S. S. & S ) io-wit
Sheriff Stevens, who will follow them
to the end of the earth to arrest them,
Solicitor Smith, who will prosecute
them, and Jndge Stark, who willimpcte
the fines upon them.
The news has jnst been brought to
Jackson by some of onr local politicians
recently retained from Atlanta, ttat
Hon. James M. Smith, Georgia's biggest
farmer, will certainly be in the race for
governor next year. This is said to be
a “straight tip from headquarters,” and
a red hot fight is now confidently pre
dicted by the “knowing ones.”
And while speaking of things politi
cal, we learned today, via Atlanta, that
Col. Ohas. H. Brand, the present solici
tor general of the western circuit, wiU
not be a candidate to succeed himseif,
but will run for jndge of this circuit
when the proper time comes With
Jndge “Dick" Russell in the race to
EOcceed himself, and Solicitor Brand
after the same position plum, it is not
neceisury to Btate that there will be a
warm race ahead for them both. Jack-
son county will give Jndge, who is one
of onr most distinguished sons, a solid
vote as nsual.
Anent the last news item, it is also
learned that Cols. Henry S. West and
Thos. J. Shackelford, both of the Classic
City, were in Atlanta this week, ai.d
while there whispered to their friends
that they would be in the race for soli
citor general of this circuit next time.
With already two entries from Clarke,
one from Gwinnett, one from Walton,
and in all probability one from Jt fferson,
too. In order to keep pace with onr
neighbors, there will be a right interest
ing campaign ahead for solicitor as we. l
as for jndge of this circuit.
It is rather early yet to prognosticate
as to who will be the representatives
from Jackson next year, bnt is is pretty
certain that Dr. L. G. Hardman, of
Harmony Grove, can go if he wants to,
and in that event he will probably be a
candidate for speaker. It is also con
ceded to be Winder's or Maysville's
time to fnrnish the other representative.
HeiKcpt his Ur.
Twelve years ago J. W. Sullivan, of
Hartford, Coon., scratched his leg with
a rnsty wire. Inflamation and blood
poisoning set in. For two years he suf
fering intensely. Then the best doctors
urged amputation, “bnt,” he writes, “I
nsod one bottle of Electric Bitters and
1 1-2 boxes of Bncklen’s Arnica Salve
and my leg was sonndand well as ever."
For Eruptions, Eczema, Tetter, Salt
Rhgnm, Sores and all blood disorders
Electric Bitters has no rival on earth.

Ur. W. J. Baxter, of North Brook, N.

years. He tried many remedies with no
res nits until he used DeWitt’s Witch
Hazel Salve and that quickly cured him.
