Manila, May 3.—General Davis, in
command of the American forces in
the* Island of Mindanao, cables that his
ultimatum has not been answered;
that his messenger has not returned
and that the American outposts were
tired on this morning. The troops ad
vanced and shelled Morro fort, but did
not capture it until the infantry reach
ed the dit<h. This fort was strong
and well defended by 300 men. Fort
Panda I'ato was then surrounded and
heavily shelled. Heavy firing contin
ued as the dispatch was sent.
General Davis Iso reports that Lieu
tenant Henry S. Wagener, of the Four
teenth infantry, has been seriously
wounded; that two other officers were
slightly wounded and that 20 enlisted
men were wounded.

Incendiary Fire at Sylacauga.
Sylacau^a. Ala.. May 3.—An attempt
was mad to burn three dwelling
houses at Knapp’s mill Monday night
by some unknown party. The houses
were tired and one was lost, but by
quick work two were saved. Circum
stances show the fire to have been
of Incendiary origin.
