111 • News editorially says:
The duke of Wellington poiuted with
pride to ttie gridiron of Eton and said :
• Here the battle of Waterloo was fought
tnd won.
Bight trnly can Chancellor Walter B
Bill point with pride to his armed foot
ball warriors and say : "These heroes
gained for their alma mater the splendid
appropriation made Saturday by th
Georgia legislature.”
It is a notable fact that there wort
fewer dissenting votes to the appropria
tion made to the State l niversity this
year than ever before—only twenty
seven.
What caused this sadden change in
the hearts of the legislature:
There was never so much enthusiasm
exhibited toward a college as was dis
played on last Thanksgiving Day. when
men in every walk oi life laid aside
business cares for awhile to give en
couragement to the team which repie
sented their alma mater.
There was genuine Georgia grit and
Georgia spirit exhibited at the 1 park
when the Georgia boys went again-1
what seemed certain defeat, but whet
the Georgia boys swept e-vi rything b—
fort them and the paeans of victory
were still ringing in the ears of every
one the appropriation bill came up be
fore the house.
The Georgia spirit still burned in tin
breasts of the Georgia alumni in th,
house and this feeling impregnated tin
lukewarm supporters of the University
and what seemed a doubtful possibility
was changed into a sweeping victory
for the State University and its branches.
Once again the Georgia Spirit made
itself felt.
