Still it rains, and almost ail the
water courses are full. The weather,
at this writing, seems dull, damp and
dreary, but
“Every Hark cloud has a silvery lining
And behind the clouds tho suit still is
shining.”
On last Saturday morning ye
scribe, accompanied by the other
members of the family, set out for a
visit to relatives and friends in Ran¬

/Friendship, : that being the regular
p««®hing day at that place. We
listened to an excellent sermon by
Brother Marti a, the pastor, who, we
believe, conscientiously speaks the
truth, the whole truth and nothing
but the truth.
After services we wore invited to
tho hospitable home of Mrs. P. Jl.
Justice, who, though a great suffer
from the excruciating pains of rheu-
j matysm, is for the most part cheerful,
Find does ail in her power to facili-
| late the enjoyment of her guests.
The day passed off very pleasantly,
with the exception of some excite-
rnent in the afternoon oaused by the
capers of a run-awav mule. No one
was hurt, but some ladies wore badly
frightened.

Last Friday, a short while after
her infant of only a few hours
breathed its last, the poor little mama
seemed to lose all interest in life and
soon followed her little darling to a
better world.
It is a sore trial to give up our
'oved ones, but, at times, it seems
that to “fall asleep in Jesus” is bet¬
tor than a life in this world of sorrow.
Mrs. Poindexter was the second
child of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Peavy,
and from childhood was almost an
iuvelid. She died at the age of 27
years, and lived the life of a martyr,
but duriug all her trouble and afflic¬
tion she never deserted her Savior.
To her young husband, little child,
mother, father, sister and brothers
we extend the hand of brotherly love
and sympathy.
Tho remains of Docia Poindexter
rests bv the side of those of her sis¬

she was faufitful.

Sanitation in Asim
The appearance of plague at Bombay

those prosperous cities had come to be¬
lieve that they had nothing to lean; in
regard to sanitation. There was a time
when they were open to reproach in
such matters as upon sewers, polluted
Water, and what not. But by dint cf
liberal expenditure of Money and energy
they had made matters right and could
even challenge comparison with Faria,
Berlin and Vienna. When, however, tho
awful eastern scourge, after striking
firm root at the western capital, flew
across tho peninsula to tho eastern, tho
pnblio became n little doubtful as to
whether sanitary precautions had been
duly observed. First came inquiry, then
dismay, indignation, wrath, as discov¬
ery followed discovery, each more ap¬
palling than the last, Wo refrain from

terrible question presents itself, If the
