A Word to the County Board
For the Paupers.
ITear Sir:--Are yon not shamed
of yourselves for reducing the poor,
helpless paupers’ rations from $2 50
to $2? Let me beg you to stop and
think for one minute. Do you think
you would like for any ono who was
related to you to be forced to live on
$2 worth of rations per month? Be¬
fore you die some of your women

this reason, alone, please place it
back to $2.50 or $H per month.
Give tho poor, outcast pauper one
gallon of syrup extra if nothing else.
By so doing you will favor them and
please God. I am.
Yours most respectfully,
A Sympathizer.

Soiue Gopher Stories
From the Ocilla, Ga., News.
In the early days of this section a man
threw a gopher into a well, near the line
of Wilcox, above Irwinville, and went
his way. Eight years afterwards in
cleaning out the well the gopher was
found at the bottom hale and hearty nnd
was given his liberty. The well was a
deep one, and during the eight years the
gopher was in it he was without food
He had dug a hole some distance in the
side of the well and seemed to be well
contented.
Many years ago when Mr, Marcus
Luke, of Irwinville, was about to build
bis kitchen ho fotiud that the sight se¬
lected covered the home of a gopher.
The hole was stopped up and the kitchen
built, Like most kitchens built- in those
days the floor was made of clay and was
very durable. The gopher was not
thought of for sixteen years, when one
day, to the astonishment of the family,
his gophership dug his way through the
clay floor aud marched off as big as life,
apparently none the worse for his six¬
teen years of solitary conflnement with-
out food or water. This is a true gopher 1
story and can be vouched for. '
