round. His next visit to this place,
for the purpose of collecting taxes, will
be on the 15th of November.

denomination are trying to raise mon-
ey to build a larger and more comfort-
church, and desire their white
friends to aid them. Their labors in
this direction are praiseworthy, end’ and

from Arlington who paid our town

this week the death of little Eddie, in¬
fant son of Mr.an 1 Mrs.Henry Butler,
which occurred at their residence this
morning. He had been a great suffer¬
er for a long time, and his death is a
release from pain. He goes to join
with the angelic throng where sick,
ness and suffering are never known.
We tender our sympathies to the Le-
rieved relatives and friends.

Mr. F. E. Davis and several patties
from Blake'y took the train here last
Monday for Macon, where they will
witness the sights at the Fair. Mr.
Davis will take in the Exposition be¬
fore returning. lie took some of Mrs.
Davis’ beautiful shell work with him,
which will be placed on exhibition.

We learn that Mrs. Collins, who
lives a few miles east of Bluffton, had
the misfortune to lose her gin house
gin and gearing by fire one day hist
week. It was evidently the work of
an incendiary. Three bales seed cot¬
ton, belonging to different parties,
were also burned.
A Big Chain Gang Lawsuit.—T he
case of the convicls lessees vs. the Ma;
riettit and North Georgia railroad,
which has been occupying the attention
of Fulton Superior Court for several
days, was concluded yesterday by Judge
Hillyer deciding that ho had no juris¬
diction in the case, and the matter
will be referred to tbe Supreme Court.
The suit is brought by the lessees,
who claim that the railroad company
have had the full benefits of the act
which gave them the two hundred
and fifty convicts for three years, and
prays the court to cause the principal
keeper of the penitentiary to cease do-
liviring the convicts to the railroad
