Mr. S. B. Timmons killed three
wild turkeys this week. The last one,
of which lie sent 11 s the beard, weigh¬
ed 21 pounds vdien cleaned. Wimder

other day that there was a case of
small pox in Miller county, in a young
man who has recently returned from
Texas. The rumor has since been de¬
nied, however, by reliable parties.

he finished the sentence by remark-

to be a favorite willi the burglars.
He sells his goods very cheap and
will sometimes give to those who are
not able to pay the money, but fit ill
there are those who hail rather . ateal.
Three times since Christmas his store
has been broken into by burglars, and
each time they have made a heavy
raid upon his stock. On last Tuesday
night his bouse was entered and re-
lieved of over two hundred dollars
worth of goods, consisting of dress

etc. A A part of the goods were found
the next day in an old shop near the
store—about S25 worth. We sympa-
thize with Mr. Boyd and hope lie may

(Calhoun Superior Court convened
last Tuesday,'JudgeoS'iinmons of the
Macon circuit,presiding. Judge Warren
being confined at homo with sickness.
We never knew a Judge to give more
general satisfaction tliun did Judge
Simmons. Ho went through the dock¬
ets with wonderful dispath, and by
Tuesday night he had finished up all
the business that it was possible to
get through with at this term of court
Besides our local bar, we noticed a
number of lawyers from neighboring
■towns. T he grand jury wa? composed
of some of our best citizens and those
who have the wellfare of our county tit
heart. Their presentments will be
published iu our next.

In a few years more Mr W. T
Saxon's farm, a few miles north of
Arliugton, will be one of the fimst
and most valuable in Georgia, if lie
contiuues to improve it au h ■ has com¬
menced. He is working quietly, but
his work is that which will pay him

made a fish porid (in which he has just
placed a lot of Ge. man carp) set out a
fruit orchard, and done many other
things that will-be the source of com
fort and luxury. He has also pluntul
a number of acres in grass teed, and
will hereafter leave cotton alone, and
turn his whole attention to rai-ing
stock and the cultivation of provision
crops. Now what other farmer will
show the same level headedness and
do likewise
