Tho work is to begin at once, and be pushed forward with all speed for the spi ing opening. Do not these figures sustain our statement? / * The value of these exports was in round figures $066,000—considers bly over half a million, and all gain ed within twelve years. What will the nex twelve bring forth? These shipments were made in 41 vessels, loaded at our docks and cleared at our custom .house, with the exception of about 10,000 barrels of rapta and 5,094 barrels of spirits which wont coastwise to Now York. Tho total numbor of vessels laden with naval stores from' tho whole United States was only 363. The ports 6f Wilmington, Charles ton, Savannah, Brunswick and Mo bile supply all the naval stores of the United Slates, shipments from New York being only what has gone coast wise from these ports. Fivo ports then do all the business, and Brunswick — little Brunswick that a few years ago was not men tioned in connection wlthjthls trade, and now actually supplies opo-sov- enthof tho entire quantity I Ib it too much to predict that the end of 1888 will show her contributing her tall quota of one-fifth of the whole? Branswick’s business 1n this line is done by two houses, Messrs. Down ing Jr., A Co., and Mr. J. S. Thomas this being the latter gentleman’s first year. Downing A Co., ships entirely for Paterson, Downing A Co., of New York, who do a larger business than any other firm in the country in the same time, Their shipments during the past year have been 60 per cent of all the rosin and 40 per cent of all the Bpirito shipped by the whole United States, employing 182 vessels out of a total of 368.
