PstrlOfd Monitor In Iowa. The petrified remains of a huge ani mal have been discovered near Percy. Io., by a man named S. R. Dawson. It oyas lying beneath the surface on tho ■bank of the Des Moines river. The total length of tho body measures, without tho head, over forty feet. Tho head was do- tached from tho body, and when dis covered was some distance away from it. At nine feet from the end of tho tail it measured four feet six inches in width. In support of his theory that this to the petrif lod remains of somo extinct monster, Mr. Dawson, in describing the find, shows that; it to entirely unlike the stouo forma tion in tho vicinity. A spar of quartzito formation was discovered in the locality where the blood vessels and intestinal canal should bo, and another formation was found in other ports. The remains were in n bed of dark blue etono sur rounded by petrified remains of insects and other animals. Mr. Goorge Bancroft accounted for hit own longevity the other day with three reasons: First, that he was the middle child in his father's family, equally dis tant from the youngest ami the oldest; second, that he had always gone to (ml at 10 o’clock, unless it had i>cen impossi ble; and, third, that lie had always spent four hours- in each day in the open air, unless prevented by a storm. Ho added that his riding, of which the newspapers had mode so much, was primarily for tho purpose of being out of doors, aud not of being on horseback.—Frank Leslie's. Section 1. Bn It, and It herebv ordained by tho Mayor and Council of tho city of Brunswick, In Council assembled, that from and nfter tho passage of this Ordinance, the allowing pools of wates to stand tor any length of tithe, upon any -lot of land, within tho limits of said city, is detri mental to tho public health and safety and Is hereby declared to be a nuisance; and each and every owner of any lot iu said city upon which pools of water collect, la hereby required, upon a written request of tho Board of Health of said city, to fill up such lot with additional earth, or to ditch and drain said lot, so that such standlni water shall be removed therefrom, -and all wel or marshy soil shall become dry land.
